Lately my car has been hard to put in gear when it heats up. I changed the cable to a summit adj not more than six months ago. Also last night there was alot of slack in my clutch pedal too. It wasn't like this when I first put it on. Way too much play. When I got in the car this morning the damn cable was off the quadrant!! How did is happen? I got under the dash and put it back on and was able to drive to work. Still alot of play in the pedal. Is my pressure plate going out? What could the problem be? Any input would help.

Thanks :flag:

How many times have you tightened the cable since you put it in? It will stretch enough in six months to do what you're describing. They need to re-tightened every couple weeks when they are new, they stretch out a lot initially.

yea right now after my quadrant and adj cable installation i had it set and now the cable is breaking in so now i am going to adjust it more. so its all good. now if your clutch is slipping then yea your clutch is going out, but i see you are having a cable problem that just only needs adjusting.

Wow! They strectch that much? I'll get underneath and adjust it some more. I just hope I still have room on the adjustable part to make it tighter.
Yes, they stretch that much. Get a firewall adjuster, it will make it much easier and double your adjustment range. You won't have to worry about running out of threads.

Mechanical experience? Well, put it this way: if you put in the cable and quadrant yourself, you are probably overqualied for the job.
A good adjuster will give you another 1-2 inches of tightening. If your cable has 1.5" of threads on the end, if it stretches more than that your out of luck. The FWA will keep going. I've never heard of a cable stretching farther than both of them together could compensate for. Not to mention, it's a lot easier to pop the hood when it starts to feel loose than it is to climb underneath.

Yea its really easy. My cable stretched quite a bit when i first put it on and i adjusted it a bunch of times after i drove it for a while. The firewall adjuster is the best way to fine tune how your clutch feels. Once you get it set up at first...try to leave yourself some room to adjust it out like stangbear said. You can get a couple inches out of the adjuster and since you have most of the stretch out of the cable it should work nicely now. You can put it on in about three minutes. Good luck man
