Clutch info

I need to find a replacement clutch for my 88 T-bird. I would like something more heavy duty than stock. I wanted to know if a ford motorsport clutch would bolt up or not. The input shaft is the same but my clutch is hydrallic. I need to replace it soon. Centerforce is more money than I want to spend. I thought about going with a Ram Powergrip as it is not near as expensive as a Centerforce.

Since your here I'm assuming its a TC? might not be what you want ot hear but......Unless you have a pile of mods or you're planning to I would use a stock replacement. I got a lifetime warranty clutch from autozone for 2.3 turbo coupe. I have about 5k miles and about 50 passes down the track and its been great so far. I have the same new clutch in my 88 TC thats stock and it works great with no problems.

The cabel style and the hydrualic style bellhousings all use the same clutch assembly

Yes it is an 88 TC. I am planning to do some mods I would like to get between 300-35- horse out of it when Im done. Will a stock clutch handle that much for very long? It looks like Ford Motorsports would drop in but I might have to get a different pilot bearing? Just guessing on the pilot bearing. Any more info would help.

the pilot bearing will be the same no matter what clutch is in it. SPEC makes clutches for these cars but will most likely be overkill.
Be prepared, at 350hp you surpass your ability to use stock parts. IE: injectors, turbo, most cheap intercoolers, and good head work must be done.

What I am trying to ask is if I get a Ford motorsport King Cobra clutch kit for a 5.0 will i need to get a different throw out bearing or will it not work at all. All other dimensions seem to be the same. Maybe im just ignorant but thats why Im asking questions.

Ahhh gotcha definately will not work. The V8 clutch has a much larger diameter and will not fit in the 2.3 bellhousing.

Thanks for your help. How much horse are you running on your stock Turbo Coupe? Also Ram Power grip clutch runs $240 for TC application. Any feedback on those particular clutches?

not sure of the power capacity of those ram clutches but I'm sure it'll take you as far as you want to go.
lol right now it feels like I'm 245hp in 1st, 215 in 2nd, and about 125 in 3rd.
when its running right with a completely stock untouched longblock I'm expecting to make about 225hp.
