Hey guys. Latley when ive been stoped or going slow (under 20mph), when I push the clutch in I feel this clunk, like something hitting something else. It only happens when I push it in and only sometimes, and only at slow speeds. I feel it in the pedal like something hitting something like i said. But everything is new, I have a new King Cobra Clutch, new Maximum Motorsports Quadrant, and Firewall adjuster, and new FRPP oem non adjustable clutch cable, all installed by Jake Lamatta. And all has under 6k miles. The clutch was broken in properly.

Any ideas as to what it can be? It really dosent sound or feel good. I have powershifted many times at the track, and sometimes beat on the tranny. The tranny dosent go into 2nd gear sometimes, very rare though. But other then that it drives like a dream, the clutch grabs right at about the middle, and dosent slip, clutch pedal feels just as stiff as it did when it was new.

no its only in the pedal, I can feel it somewhere in the pedal, not in the drivetrain, only when i push the pedal in, once it gets past a certain point, about 3/4 in, it feels like a clunk, like i said though only in the pedal, not in the drivetrain or anywhere else. When it does happen, my foot has to be completley off the pedaland p ush it in, if i push it in and it does it and i let off alittle and push again it will not do it, only when i take my foot off completly, and push it again.

quadrant and cable are BRAND NEW
doesn't mean anything! I would suspect the cable first. If it got hot on the exhaust then it could be kinked somewhere. Being new doesn't mean you can't have a kink in it. If not the cable then I would aim towards the clutch fork not in proper alignment. This (of course) is without seeing or hearing it. Take a video of it if you can.

yea im trying to get a video but like i said it only does it sometimes. as a last resort I will take it back to jake lamatta and see what the problem is. Ive always had problems with Jake Lamatta. Just making sure something is wrong with it and its not normal.

i think its your cable one wire split now its binding in the certain place your saying. It might not do it all the time, mine screwed up after my motor install the header cooked the cable inside during breakin, it looked fine until i took it off the car its really tight. But i could still push the pedal down.

i've never heard of a bad cable though causing a clunk. Usually they either just get real damn stiff, or just snap.

why would you powershift that thing? And you're asking why you've got a problem?? t5's aren't designed to powershift, and NEITHER are king cobra clutches. You're asking for certain doom.

bottom line if it happens just in the clutch pedal, as a direct result of depressing the clutch pedal, you've got a mechanical problem, imo. Get under the car, pull the fork cover off. lay with your head to the rear (suppor the car with jackstands!!!) and then depress the fork with your foot directly. If you get the clunk, the problem is internal, if not, it's somewhere between the cable and clutch pedals.

I'd "guess" it's either the t/0 bearing, or clutch/pressure plate/flywheel.

I power shift because it shaves .3 seoconds off my time, dont powershift on the street, only when i rarley go to the track. And it only happens when pressing in the pedal, never when depresssing. I hasent done it in a while, i guess its fine for now.

hey, I'm not out to criticize you. I know full well the benefits of a powershift on your time slip. I'm guessing, like myself, you're not made out of money. In your situation, you had your clutch work done by someone else, which means it set you back even more, as I do all my own work, and cut costs down significantly that way. My best suggestion is to NOT powershift, EVER, until you're running a gforce or tremec trans with a better clutch.

For now, I'd do what I suggested, and narrow the problem down. If you have a loose pressure plate or flywheel, you certainly don't want that coming apart at 5000 rpm.

Im 17, I dont have the epxierence, help, or time to do it myself. I work everyday at around 5 and have school 7:15-2:20. It was installed by Jake Lomatta, if you look in the 5.0 magazines, they do most of the test installs for mustangs parts, etc. They did a much better job then I could have ever done, and if i had tried it I would be kicking myself in the ass because it wouldnt even run and id have to pay them to fix it anyways. I know what your saying though. I keep the powershifting to a minimum.

They also resurfaced my flywheel, they said it was good. Honestly the car runs VERY strong, and runs perfect, just that one little thing, dosent affect drivability at all though, and its stoped. If it starts back up ill have it checked out, thanks guys.

no offense mob but a clutch job on a fox is about as easy as it comes. haynes manual and simple hand tools will get the job done on a saturday. as for time, well summer is coming up isn't it? lol

that aside, it sounds like maybe your TOB has worn into the input shaft bearing retainer, maybe making a little groove that it gets caught up on and then releases.

if i were you i'd take it back to the shop or get under there yourself and see what's going on.

I've had a similar problem, try putting the pedal down a little faster. I notice if i just put the clutch down gradually it would clunk ( especially in 1st and 2nd gear). Just an idea i've been dealing with it.

Yes summer has been here for about 4 wks for me already, still work everyday from 4/5-close, and summer school from 7:15-12:30 and work 12-8's on weekends. For some people a clutch job might be easy but its not as easy as it comes, especially if youve never taken apart a transmission before.

yea it mostly at lower speeds, (1st to 2nd gear) and usually when i do it slow, but it still does it when i push it in fast sometimes. But like i said it never does it anymore, but now when i let off the clutch there is a squeeshing sound.
