Does anybody know if there are varying degrees of clutch pack rebuild kits. i.e. - Heavy duty kits with more discs to beef up the traction-lock for more posi-track like performance, etc., or are they all pretty cut and dry from Summit or Jegs?
I'm not positive, but I think that all the kits are basicly the same. You can make the possy stiffer by getting as many clutch disks in as possible, but if you try to many you might not be able to get the spring back in.
When I rebuilt mine, it was a PITA to get the spring in, I had to use a vise grip to close it up as much as possible and a hammer to drive it in.
There are two different ways of rebuilding an 8.8 diff. One uses 3 frictions which is stock the other uses 4 frictions per side. You have to reuse one of the frictions out of the original set.
