clutch pedal help please

The clutch pedal on my 68 is binding and does not return all the way when letting off of it. I started to take it apart thinking I need to replace the bushings as they are making a loud binding sound. To verify this I disconnected the clutch from underneath the car and the pedal is still restricted so I know the problem is in the pivot mount.
My question is how do I get the pin or pedal out of its mount? I removed the shim that holds the end of the pin, but I cant remove the pedal. Do I just bang on it till it breaks loose, or is there something else I need to unbolt?? Please help, its apart in my driveway, thanks!

I haven't tried to remove the pedal with the pedal support still in the car. When I did my power brake pedal swap, I removed the whole pedal support and did it on the bench. A little work involved with this - need to drop the steering wheel shaft (simple couple of bolts) and remove the 4 or 5 bolts where it bolts to the firewall and brake booster/cylinder. Once on the bench, it's very simple. I would suggest doing it this way so that you can get a better view of the damage. They sell roller bearing kits which provide a significant upgrade to the factory bushings. Do a search on this forum and you should find some links.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread because I need to replace my bushings soon too. I have a lot of slop in the pedal, it even moves side to side.

I had side to side slop on my pedal but it was due to the pedal itself not secured to the shaft. The pedal is a different material from the shaft and the shaft is pinned on. I then purchased a wire-feed welder and welded the pedal onto the shaft as my first-ever welding project and it has held up for over a decade.

My pedal came out easily once the cotter pin was removed. Maybe your pedal shaft is grooved and stuck on the bearings. Mine was slightly grooved but I simply replaced the plastic bushings. If you take care of the plastic bushings you shouldn't need a roller conversion.

turned out the pin is part of the pedal assembly, it was still being held in by the force of the helper spring. I had to remove the instrument cluster and then remove 2 of the 3 bolts that hold the spring support. When I did this the spring came out, then the pedal assembly came out with no problem. Also found out why it was not returning, 40 years of use has worn a deep groove in the pin so it was binding very badly. I either need a new pedal assembly or I need to have someone machine more metal onto the pin to strengthen it. I understand they make a ball bearing type bushing as a replacement for the stock bushings, I think I will go with that setup when I put the new pedal in next week. Thanks to everyone for your help.
