I got into my 1993 Mustang 5.0 and pushed down the clutch pedal, it made this snapping noise, and now its loose. Its in a shopping plaza parking lot, could I fix the problem in the parking lot? Is it just some spring I have to reattach to the pedal?

The quadrant or pawl teeth probably stripped. You could try pulling up on the pedal to see if it will readjust and re-engage. Just note that if this works, the same thing might happen again at any time while trying to drive.

An aftermarket quadrant and Firewall Adjuster will take care of the issue.

Good luck.

80.00 from UPR. You can get the firewall adjuster, cable, and quadrant all in one shot.

I had this happen with my clutch, it did manage to come undone so i could go home.

As far as an aftermarket setup, i dont like them, and prefer the stock setup. I do have aftermarket based on the fact that i have a very heavy clutch, and would break it again.
But if i had a king cobra or centerforce, i certainly would replaced the stock stuff.
I also don't drive my car often, so adjusting it manually isn't all that big of a deal.

I really like the MM kit (long cable, FWA and quadrant). I would have tried the Fiore stuff last time around but it was backordered at the time.
The MM FWA and quadrant are less than 70 bucks IIRC, and the Fiore stuff is just a little bit more.

I agree with Eric - I would not want to purchase the stock stuff. It was a cost-effective way for them to do linkages, but the aftermarket stuff is far more tractable in the long term. One tow home can cost what buying new aftermarket stuff cost.

MHO.
Good luck.

People been getting by with that stock junk for over 20 years now.
How bad could it of been?

The stock junk is plenty good for most average mild street cars.
