My dad has a 69 Mustang with a 351 in it. He's in the finishing stages of converting it from an auto to a 4 speed toploader and wants me to ask you guys which clutch he should go with. He plans on keeping it below 400hp and wants to know whether he should go with the Centerforce Stage II or III clutch and why? He says he heard somewhere that the stage III is too "grabby" and doesn't have a good feel for regular driving. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

I am using a Centerforce Dual Friction. Very low pedal pressure and yet great grab. Highly recommended by myself and on most performance web sites for strip/street use.

I also have the centerforce dual friction between a modified 302 and a T5. There is no comparison to a stock clutch. The Centerforce is smooth and easy to engage and I've never experienced slip. Easy pedal pressure. I do not have any experience with other high quality after market clutches, but I'm so pleased with the CF that if it ever wears out it will be replaced with another of the same.

What I understand is going on with the Centerforce clutch is that the weights they use increase engagement pressure: the higher the RPM, the greater the engagement pressure. So, they are more "grabby" when you rev the engine and then engage the clutch. If the RPMs are kept low, engagement is likely more or less normal. Many people swear by them, but there are certainly other good choices. I am using a dual friction (organic/kevlar) Superior Clutch that I got from Modern Driveline. I don't have many miles on it, but I like it very much thus far.
