I'm looking at getting a clutch for the Mustang and there are plenty of clutch kits raning from 125-350. I will probably not break 350hp, with the setup I have. Will stock replacement kits for a 5.0 Fox be able to handle this? Is it worth it to step up to "Performance" kits? It will be a street driver but I would like to see some dragstrip usage out of it(this will be the expception not the rule). I want to get a good clutch that will last because I don't want to pull out what I put in if it will just slip when I get on it. Any suggestions would be great.

I strongly suggest a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, although I have heard some who had bad luck out of this setup. I used a Borg-Warner heavy duty replacement for about 6 months as I recall before it bit the dust behind a fairly stock '68 302 driving the car daily. I put the Centerforce in around 1992, and have not had any problems since. I drove the car daily for the next 4 or 5 years and drove it another couple of years at least 2 or 3 days a week, although I sadly admit that it hasn't seen much action over the last 5 years but has been driven occasionally (it kinda got shelved in law school. Did I really just reveal that? Let the flaming begin :flame: :rlaugh: ) Regardless, I've never had a problem during that time and the performane has been outstanding. :nice:

i've also got a centerforce dual friction. been very pleased. it's held up fantastically over 25k+ miles, 120 drag strip passes (on DRs), and lots of hard driving. no signs of failure yet.

i've driven cars with king cobras, RAM, etc. and the centerforce has the best "feel" to me. not to hard, not too easy.

I'll start the bad talk.I had DF centerforce and from day one it chattered, pulled out many times and even had the nice guys at Mcleod test it and they wouldnt sell me one because they couldnt find a problem.Well I didnt leave Mcleod without one of their clutches and have been very satisfied with it.Everybody else loves theirs,or likes them a lot,my bad luck. :notnice:

What about ford racing? They seem to be fairly priced and claim to be able to hold the torque I will make but whats the difference between the Ford racing clutch kit and the Ford Racing King Cobra Kit. I also looked into the centerforce clutches definately something to look into for the long run.

The clutches Ford Racing markets ARE the stock parts. :D A lot of what they have in their catalog are O.E. parts that were used on the production line. One added benefit to the Dual Friction clutch is reduced pedal effort. Mine is about half of what it was with the 94-95 Stang HD clutch I had before.

Does ford add on extra $ to the price tag because it's under their name? Would it be better just to get a hays or McLeod?
I worked for a Ford dealer and half the stuff was just re badged, headers, guages, headers, clutches, pulleys, intakes etc.

I personally like my Mcleod, and me going there personally made it that much better. It not that much heavier then a CF.The CF even uses a LUK PP,which you can buy at any parts store and just adds their weights.
