Anybody had to put a new clutch in after installing a Magnacharger blower? I'm in for 30K on the stocker and she's shot. Can the transmission be removed without having to undo the front motor mounts to tip the engine?
The one now is just an OEM stock clutch. The original was replaced at around 20k due to some second gear shift issues. The new one has lasted till around 50k which is where it is now. It is going to be a pricey swap if Ford does it so definitely will buy an upgraded one for this swap. I'll probably just go with a Ford Racing one which states 25% higher capacity than stock.
No need to remove the motor mounts, but I suspect you'll have to pull the SC and the intake manifold. You need to gain an inch or two to gain the clearance necessary to tilt the motor so the bell housing will clear the trans tunnel. It's quite tight. My KB is closer than your MC - but if you try to do it with the MC in place you more than likely risk breaking the plastic heater hose connectors at the firewall. If that happens I think you'll be taking the dash apart to replace the heater core.
Just FYI, it took me about 8 hours by myself, on my back with the car on jackstands. Not fun, but my SPEC stage 3+ has proven flawless. The stock clutch gave up with 3,500 miles on the clock and only 1K of that on the boosted motor. The KB simply proved too much. Clutch was like new, it just couldn't handle to torque.
My only concern is increased pedal pressure and possible negative consequence for TOB life span and the crappy plastic hydraulic line (but I am at 24K now). I should have replaced it with a braided line.
