I have an '03 GT and a friend has offered a set of '96 Cobra springs. Are they really any different? I'm wondering if it will be a significant change in ride height and spring rate BEFORE I go through the trouble to swap them out and see. Thanks!

you prolly won't notice any difference. I would order a set of lowering or racing springs if you want a difference. Make sure you compare the stock spring rates with the aftermarket set you have. Order according to what you want the car to do. Too firm and your car will bounce like you are driving down a dirt road on an ORV trail, too soft, the car will bottom out and flop all over the place.

ride height looks the same

1999-2004 Ford Mustang GT
Front Springs 450 lbs./in. linear
Rear Springs 210 lbs./in. linear

1996-1998 Ford Mustang Cobra
Front Springs 400-505 lb./in. Varible
Rear Springs 165-265 lb./in.

well, does a stock 96 Cobra have a lower ride height? That's all you need to know, I think. Your GT will ride pretty much the same height as the Cobra, maybe a bit higher in the front due to less mass. The spring rate will help tell you if you can use your stock shocks - a higher spring rate would require a stiffer shock.
