Cobra vs. Performer vs Performer RPM II intake

I have a 92 Mustang GT. I installed a Ford Racing 302 long block
> with Y303 heads and an E303 Cam. I have a FR Cobra intake, 24lb
> injectors a 76mm mas air and a 65mm throttle body. I'm thinking of installing an
> edelbrock intake, but do not know if it should be the Performer,
> Performer RPM, or RPM2.
I spoke with Edelbrocks' technical people. One person said I should use the Performer becuase of the E cam. Second person there said I should use the Performer II with a 65mm throttle body.
Is it worth changing to the Edelbrock, and if so which one.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would say you listed them in good/better/best order, of the 3 that you listed. From what i've read about the II, it's pretty badass.

cobra vs performer

Tom,
Would you pick the Performer over the Cobra?

They are pretty close in stock form - the Performer flows a little more but both seem to make very close to the same power. In ported form, the Performer will flow more air. Which one is the right one to use depends on all the other stuff your going to use in the engine, drive train and car. I don't think you have a pressing need to port at this point.......

Remember eveyone of those guys is trying to sell you something.........except me because I tend to be careful with my recommendations and your money.

I agree about the order in which you mentioned them. Cobra, RPM, RPMII. Good, better, best. The best choice out of those IMO would be the performer RPM for your combo. The e cam will make power up to 5500 rpm and the RPM intake will support that. The RPMII may be a bit too much intake for that combo. The RPMII can make power to 6500 RPM while the Ecam cannot. IMO if you went with the RPMII lowend torque will suffer! But on the other hand I went with the TFS track heat intake with the ecam on my 331 and I love it.

Listen to Tom Moss on this one, he knows what he is talking about.

RPM II is not necessary at all. Neither is the RPM. Performer is a bit better. Cobra is just fine for now.

There is no best, better, best for every combo. There is a good intake for a certain setup. A RPM II is not meant for a stock engine. A Performer intake isn't meant for a blown stroker.

Keep the Cobra, save your money

With those heads I don't think the cobra intake is holding you back from getting more power.They are a nice match.

The cobra is fine for your setup.

Unless you just want a new intake, I would keep the Cobra. I really don't see any real gains by switching at this point.

I guess i have a problem with always thinking ahead....i think of it like this...i dont have as much money to spend on my car as i'd like, so when i go out and spend around 500 on an intake (as i'd spend for an EFI intake) i'm going to get what i WANT and not necessarily what is best for the combo i have right now...i'm going to get the best performing and highest potential i can afford, because eventually everything else will catch up.

Like the cam for example, it might not be able to keep up with the II but a cam swap is much cheaper than going out and buying another intake. This is definately not the best way to make power, but for me it usually pays off in the long run.

Right now i've got too much intake and too much carb, but i'm getting heads and a cam over the winter and won't have to buy those things new. The thing is i don't think having too much intake is going to kill you that bad right now if you plan on getting the goods to go with it soon. You probably won't see any more gains with the II than you will with the regular Performer, but if you plan on getting a wilder cam then you might consider it.

You could be like my buddy who runs an RPM, he just got some really nice aluminum heads and was running an X cam, now his intake doesn't keep up with the rest of the combo and he's gotta buy it again....it's not even 2 years old.

I agree with you about thinkin ahead. Especially when you are on a budget. But he already has the Cobra intake.

Right...i guess what i was getting at is the money could be better spent on other things UNLESS he has some major engine mods planned out in the future, and i mean realistic plans not his wish list. Everyone has a dream engine in their head and is really always in a state of building it..lol...even if they haven't bought a single bolt yet. If he's just looking to pick up a little kick in the seat, the intake won't be much use. But, if he has an aluminum headed stroker in the future that is really going to happen, then personally i'd go with the RPM II over the Cobra, and then sell the Cobra for extra cash.

Ok i guess i skimmed the first post...but with his heads, i think if he has the cash for a better cam then the II would definately benefit him more with those heads...that's more money and more work but with a 540ish lift cam that II intake is going to scream.
