You can go to another popular mustang website - everyone over there will tell you what's wrong with your car without you even posting codes (or giving any info for that matter). [I was being facetious; I hate it when people make wild guesses].

You can toss codes without triggering the CEL. And the reader that Eric noted works well - it's the best thing out there as far as readers go.

Good luck.

I had bought a code reader at a parts store, but it's not the kind with a read out, you have to count a bunch of blinks. I just pull them the ghetto way with a piece of wire now. It's easier for me.

That reader does not work for Califonia cars, however, so note that depending on location. I bought it and then had problems with it. I called the company and they said that even though it doesn't state it on the box it is not made for the 1995 Mustangs from Cali (Maybe 1994 too but I don't remember).

who makes that code reader, and how do you read the codes with it ... hook it up to the port in the engine bay?

Yep. It gives you the numbers and you use the huge book it comes with to look up the code.

I have that one from Midway Auto Supply

http://www.midwayautosupply.com/pc-7208-90-equus-digital-ford-code-reader-3145.aspx

Its a nice code reader and very easy to use, no need to be guessing or writing bars on a paper.

Whats the difference between California cars and normal production cars on SN95?

The guy from there company wasn't very helpful as to why. He was certain, however, that California was excluded. The whole reason I called was because I was having problems with it. Basically what happened when I tried to use it was...it worked the first time pulling codes KOEO and then when I tried KOER, the puller fried and after that would not work at all even when doing it with KOEO.

Now I just pull codes manually when I need to.

I may be mistaken on this next part but for some reason I think when my neighbor mechanic pulled codes with his Snap On scanner, KOEO he used the OBD1 port and KOER he used the OBD2 port. Now I know our cars aren't supposed to use the OBD2 ports and I know I have tried normal pullers on the OBD2 with no success, but for some reason I remember him using the OBD2 port also when pulling codes. When I fried the puller doing the KOER test I wondered if it was because I wasn't supposed to use the OBD2 port when doing that type of test. I'll try and get a hold of him to ask him. It has me pondering now.
