You can go to another popular mustang website - everyone over there will tell you what's wrong with your car without you even posting codes (or giving any info for that matter). [I was being facetious; I hate it when people make wild guesses].
You can toss codes without triggering the CEL. And the reader that Eric noted works well - it's the best thing out there as far as readers go.
I had bought a code reader at a parts store, but it's not the kind with a read out, you have to count a bunch of blinks. I just pull them the ghetto way with a piece of wire now. It's easier for me.
That reader does not work for Califonia cars, however, so note that depending on location. I bought it and then had problems with it. I called the company and they said that even though it doesn't state it on the box it is not made for the 1995 Mustangs from Cali (Maybe 1994 too but I don't remember).

The guy from there company wasn't very helpful as to why. He was certain, however, that California was excluded. The whole reason I called was because I was having problems with it. Basically what happened when I tried to use it was...it worked the first time pulling codes KOEO and then when I tried KOER, the puller fried and after that would not work at all even when doing it with KOEO.
Now I just pull codes manually when I need to.
I may be mistaken on this next part but for some reason I think when my neighbor mechanic pulled codes with his Snap On scanner, KOEO he used the OBD1 port and KOER he used the OBD2 port. Now I know our cars aren't supposed to use the OBD2 ports and I know I have tried normal pullers on the OBD2 with no success, but for some reason I remember him using the OBD2 port also when pulling codes. When I fried the puller doing the KOER test I wondered if it was because I wasn't supposed to use the OBD2 port when doing that type of test. I'll try and get a hold of him to ask him. It has me pondering now.
