With all this talk about coil over set up's, I thought I would dig around and see what I could come up with using Ford parts.

Photo 1 Is the parts I came up with. A modified upper arm, steel coil spring spacer found on a lot of old Fords and a upper shock mount.

Photo 2 Is what I did to the upper arm. I put in a screw in ball joint and took out the spring perch mounting area to make more room for the coil over. It has a brace on the side but that may not be needed since the arm won't be holding up the car anymore.

Photo 3 Is the metal coil spring spacer and the upper shock mount, inverted to be used on the inside of the shock tower to mount the top of the coil over too.

The upper arm still needs work and a lower arm mount for the coil over still has to be made, some hardware and other stuff but you get idea. What do you think?

That's pretty cool John. You would definately want to reinforce the arms though...

Am I correct in assuming that mount will now hold the load for both the spring and the shock? If so, I'm not sure that the inverted mount will be strong enough to be safe, as it previously only had the shock load to contend with, having some of the force distributed to the rest of the shock tower by the spring. If you look at the other designs around most of the coil over mounts are pretty solid looking comparatively.

I'm sure it would have to be braced up some and a few other things. That's what I'm asking? It's just an idea. If it could be done so it wouldn't break and it all fit together, it would save a lot of money off the aftermarket stuff?...........and you would for sure be the only guy on your block to have a set up like it.

This isn't Summit Racing it's bench racing.

I think it would be easier to fab a top mount from scratch John rather than trying to adapt inadequate stock parts and those coil shims are not easy to find but nevertheless.....nice work as always John.

Ronstang'

I'm not going to fab one of these things up. I run a sealed roller bearing spring perch on our cars. I have found that using a roller spring perch , heim joint strutt rods and a lower arm with spherical bearing on the inside pivot works very well. It free's up the suspension so the springs and shocks can do there stuff. Way better than stock and it doesn't cost much more if you can cut and weld.

This coil over deal is for those folks that want it and can't a-Ford it. Someone can make this work if they give it a good go at it. Not me...............I got a lot on my list as it is.

what car were you planing on getting coilovers from? i would think that the size and spring rate would be important to make everything work right...
