Can a bad Coil result in a sparatic missfire?

Has anyone upgraded from a stock coil?

Yes and yes, most people have. A common and proven coil upgrade is the MSD Blaster coil. Its 40 bucks or so from summit racing.

Ditto or you can get summitt's version for $32

Any coil will be better than stock. I have the accel one and I don't think it was too much $$.

While you are at it it is always a good times to do wires and cap/rotor/plugs...

My car had a horrible miss at anything with load or above 2200 RPM when I bought it, spend this $100 for coil,cap,rotor,wires,plugs and it made a HIGE difference, but my car had all of the factory stuff on it (123k miles, coil electrode was more than half gone and the plugs were at about .130 gap!!!)

I replaced my Distributor, plugs and wires and still have the same problem, so I am continuing to work my was back. Do you have a part number for the MDS coil on Summit?

I had an MSD coil . Its very easy to swap a brain dead monkey could do it.

Well I replaced the Coil and that had no affect on the moss fire, it is still consistantly at 2200 rpms, and when I really get on it is happens at 2800 and 3500 RPM. What gives the coiul its instructions to send an electrical current (Ignition)? I am trying to work my way backwards till I find the problem.

I know the Air and Fuel are correct, I have had my AEM CPu programmed by the best in the business. So I can only assume that the motor is loosing spark, I have replaces the plugs, wires, distibutor and coil, what would be next on the chain?

Balderman, seriously the plug wires can do it - make sure yours are well separated to avoid flashing. One can spray the wires with water at night (BE REAL CAREFUL OF MOVING STUFF AROUND THE MOTOR) to see if you get a light show. I know the wires are new, but it can happen.

Or put a timing light on the wires and get it to the bad RPM and see if the timing light stops pulsing.

Does the missfire continue to happen at higher engine speeds (above the 3500 mentioned above)?

No, 3300 is the highest I have seen it missfire..
