I guess I will throw my opinion into this thread.

I am currently 19 years old, and started college last summer (@ a community college). I have been going full time ever since, and have discovered that I am getting done rather quickly.

If I were you, I would just go right now. I felt like I should wait also, however I am glad that I am going NOW. If I would have waited, I probably would have never gone.

Just my $.02 for what it is worth.

EDIT: I also have to pay for everything as well, so I know what you are going through there. It certainly isn't easy but can be done.

I don't know you guys much, but my respect for both of you just doubled.

When you pay for college yourself, and you work your way through it and suceed, it builds alot of character that will serve you well later in life.

I believe that a kid who pays his own way through college takes alot more from the college experience than one who's parents pay for it.

Yea im sure it will be quite an experience. I'm pretty sure now that my only hesitation from going straight into college next year is that if i settle for the school up here, i will not be happy knowing what i could have done(going to florida)

ever consider going to a community college? you could move to florida and should be able to afford community college out of state tuition , then transfer to a university after establishing residence. also, theres lots of money out there in scholarships, your just have to look for it. i'm 19 and just finished my second semester, i ended up having about $500 left over after books from scholarships

i was stupid and never really did any kind of scholarship effort. i thinks its becayse my heart wasnt really in for going to school up here.

i think my best bet is to do it over again next year but this time to it right and for something i really want.

Stay in school

Granted I've been out of College almost 20yrs, and times have changed. Stay in get it done. I have a bunch with 15 to 25 yrs service guys working for me with a real mixed bag of education some guys don't even have grade 10, some have a grade 12 and only one has some college. None of these guys can move up in the company in which we work. To tell you the truth if the plant closes tomorrow these guys are screwed! Its a union shop average wage $25/hr but if gone tomorrow these guys couldn't buy a freaking job at Wendy's or Mc Barfalots! I know some of these guys got in here as summer help and never looked back, sure wish they could turn back the clock!

Just my opinion but I'd stick it out and go to college, get it all done, you'll find once you start working you'll never go back to school.

I took a semester off after I graduated from high school in '99. I didn't start college until spring '00. I graduated in April 2004.

I dont know how this could work for you but, down here he have florida bright futures scholarships. If you have >3.0 you get 75% of your tuition paid off, or if your have >3.5 gpa you get 100%. I dunno if you can get it in college(like get a 3.0 in college and then the next year get it paid for) but that would be something to look into. That or get all your stupid classes out of the way at a CC, then transfer and save $$$. I would have done that but I am sick of my dirt road and stuff.
