I am a LONG ways away from anything remotely close to a paint job, but I like to have an idea or a plan in place to have something to work toward. The convertible in my sig is the next project and I'm having a bit of a hard time deciding what color to paint it. It has the Desert Tan interior which I kinda like, so I think I'm gonna stick with that. It come from the factory as Medium Cabernet and, I believe, it was the 2 tone variety with grey/silver along the bottom. To be honest, that was my least favorite color and I was initially thinking of maybe going with a Forest or Emerald green, but I've been doing a little research here and there and I'm finding that this is a relatively rare color combo. The car itself will not be stock, so I'm not concerned with keeping it 100% factory original. Any thoughts on a paint color?

My white 88GT has the Desert Sand interior as well. Im going to be painting my car in the next couple weeks. Keeping it the Oxford White but thought of other colors. The tan kinda limits it to a few colors I think. I never saw a tan interior in a GT until I found mine. After thinking about it, I decided to stay with white. White would look good on your vert, or black. I am curious what other color stangs with tan interior came in. I would only consider that factory color combo. Tan interior and whatever color ford painted the exterior.

Here's how she sits now

Same pic that's in my sig, just blown up. Someone painted it red at some point, but it isn't that great of a paint job. I originally bought this car thinking of it as more of a parts car for my now-ex's 67 with the thoughts of swapping the drivetrain over, but she wanted to keep it so I started sinking money into it. I already have a new black top, the wheels were bought new, new sub frame connectors, and I'm now in the middle of collecting parts for a mass air conversion and some engine upgrades. I have everything figured out with the exception of what I want to do with paint. I like some of the suggestions so far. I've even thought about a deep brown like hrspwrjunkie suggested - I used to have an 87 Ranger STX 4X4 in a similar color with a tan interior. It grew on me. I'd call it a root beer color or something and it had some flake in it. It was a sharp truck for being brown. One thing I really wish I would've done different was bought the wheels with the machined lip or I think they should've been anthracite, but I gave her too much say and these are what she chose. It just kinda throws me off from wanting to do a dark color but think a darker color would help accent the tan interior. I guess that's why I'm asking for some opinions and where my mind was going when I said maybe a deep green, but not quite the same shade as the 7ups or Highland green - something with a little more pop! Something along the lines of this:

I think the black and the tan would both compliment something like this. I'd go with a lighter color as well, but I'm not a big fan of white and I can't envision another lighter color with what I'm working with, but I'm open to suggestions to see what someone else can come up with. To be honest color selection and matching isn't really my strong suit - that's why my Cobra is black with a black interior!! Well, one of the reasons anyway!! lol

@BlakeusMaximus Here is some of the info I found while searching options, this link should tell you how many of what color had what color interior for 87 (which is what I have), but they have all years on their website from what I can tell. I'd like to think that their site is pretty accurate but I have no way of knowing for sure....

When going with a color I like staying with factory colors. The reason for that is off the shelf touch up and the ease of finding a body shop to match the paint. I went with a custom candy apple on a car in the past and no one could match the paint after a minor fender bender.

As far as green goes....I'm really a fan of the toyota spruce green mica...

My mustang would be this color if my interior wasn't porno red. At night it looks black. When the sun hits it it has a beautiful gold dusting that really makes it pop. My choice would've been a tan top to match the interior...with a custom tan vinyl boot cover.

Got a pic of the interior? I'm leaning towards the factory med cab color personally.

I like both the greens and the brown! The brown would definitely be different - how many GTs have you seen that were brown?? I can't think of one.....

I had a thought pop into my head last night, what about a shade of blue?? I've seen some older blue Shelbys with gold lemans stripes, and the King Cobra in GotG Vol 2 was blue with gold/brown accents. There could be some gold pinstripes or something to tie in the tan interior like hrspwrjunkie suggested earlier. What do you all think of that?

As for a pic of the interior, I'll try to remember to get one later today. Fair warning, it's a complete mess right now!!

Was a busy day, but here is what I'm working with right now. It needs a cleaning in the worst way but I have so many other things going on that it hasn't happened yet. I currently have the back seat and panels out.

This is the Sa5 saleen prototype.
Probably the best looking tan interior I've ever seen. Makes me actually like it. The pics are scrollable so take a look.
I think black is the color best suited for it.

With that said, i'm more of a fan of painting cars their original color.
