My wife and I are getting ready to order our new 06 GT convertible, but disagree on the color. She wants Redfire, I want Tungsten. When we saw a Tungsten in person - it appeared to have a purple hue to it which neither of us liked. Have other 06 Tungsten owners ever noticed this?? I haven't seen it on any pictures and the fact that the ones we saw were dusty on a sunny day may have contributed to this effect. I know that Tungsten is a combination of 2 parts black, 1 part silver, 1 part pearl white, 1 part violet-red and 1 part violet-blue; so that would indicate why it may appear to have a purple hue - but how bad is it overall???

Also, does anyone out there have a Redfire convertible with black top & red leather interior? If so, please send some pictures to me so we can get an idea of what that combo looks like. Does the Redfire go well with the red leather??? If it has the standard Bullitt rims - that would be prefect.

Once we buy it, I plan to do the sequencial turn signals, lighted styling bar, CAI, underdrive pulleys and custom chip. Any other suggestions keeping in mind that my wife will be driving it some of the time?

Thanks
Brian

my $.02 worth

It looks more gray for a distance, especially in defused light / like cloudy days.

The purple hue really pops out like an iridescent color in bright sunlight.

not a bad effect in my opinion ... but it would not be my 1st choice either.

Having seen a Redfire Mustang with the Red interior, I do not think it goes well together. I do not have pics of that though as my Redfire GT coupe has black leather.

I actually thought Tungsten grey was a light purple when I initially saw it on an 06. It would not be a colour choice of mine.

I had Satin Silver stripes painted on mine and to me that really took the purplish hue away.

Thanks for your replys. Some replys of mine:
- Redfire is the dark red - almost burgandy.
- Tungsten replaced mineral grey.

Several of you confirmed my problem of the purple hue in Tungsten. I'm concerned about the Redfire with red leather and would appreciate any comments, and really appreciate any pictures of a convertible with this combo.

Another thing that concerns me about Redfire is the "ticket-me red" aspect of the color. I prefer to go in a more stealth mode - not attract too much attention. Black is probably the best for that, but it's so hard to keep clean.

Please keep the comments, suggestions (and hopefully some pictures) coming. I need all the help I can get on this.

I have a Laser Red 97 Mustang and drive like a bat out of hell. I have never been pulled over in my Mustang ever since I bought it in 99. And only one of those years have I owned a radar detector (V1). Maybe it is just luck or Austin PD, but I have never been stopped for speeding and have a perfect driving record. I wouldnt rule out red because of the police... They will stop a car speeding no matter what the color... I guess the black will give a smaller signature on the radar but I wouldnt think it is that much difference. Not like it is matte black... Oh well. Good luck with either of your choices. Personally I think the Tungsten rocks and may end up being my choice as well...

Redfire is not easy to keep clean. I have a couple of black vehicles and a Redfire mustang. The Redfire mustang shows dirt just as easily as black does.

Well heck, if we get to vote, I say Redfire with plain Dark Charcoal interior. Also, if you're interested in stripes, black stands out surprisingly well against the Redfire.

Redfire definitely isn't Ferrari or fire engine red. It's more muted than that, deeper.

I've let my wife read your responses, not that it will sway her one way or another. We saw a new refire convertible, black top w/dark charcoal interior (V6 w/pony package) bullitt rims. Looked pretty good. We're not interested in stripes - FL2005GT, but will do black between the taillights and perhaps some kind of black accent/pin strip on the sides. Still want to see Refire convt w/red leather - top down appearance would be critical. My wife thinks Tungsten w/red leather would look horrible when the purple hue is evident.

Too bad Ford doesn't do custom colors. Ford does have some nice greys that don't ever apear purple.

Still looking for pictures of redfire convt w/red leather.

Thanks
Brian

I have double side-stripes myself, came from dealership that way. Not the "Mustang" decal stripes, just two stripes on lower sides of car, same color as Bullitt rims. About 2.5" thick each, one on top of the other. The car is Performance White and they help break up all that white a bit.

No matter what combo you get, you can't go wrong. Well...maybe Legend Lime with the red interior!

I think Ford completely blew it with the purple tint in the Tungsten. Tungsten would have been my top pick without that effect, but it looks way too disco to me. The 05 mineral gray looked a lot better IMO. I'd go with silver, especially if you are considering the red insert interior. I think the Red Fire would be best with the black interior.

You might find some photos here:

Thanks 66Satellite for the link. I've been to Brad's site many times, but never found that. It's just like I thought, the red leather is lighter than the Refire color - interior looks a little pink in camparison. So if we get the Tungsten, it'll have the red leather. If we get the Redfire, it'll have dark charcoal. We'll probably get the redfire - wife usually gets what she wants, even the auto trans. Sucks, but it's still a Mustang GT!

Something else you may want to consider is the darkness of the interior on a vert.
I would pick Redfire with a tan interior and top, any dark color seats and they will get hot, quick...

Gusin CA, being that we live in Michigan I'm not too worried about the sun and hot seats, but I've had verts before and know what you're talking about. We saw a redfire with tan top & interior and didn't like it. My 95 was white w/tan top & interior, the interior REALLY showed the dirt - I wouldn't do that color interior ever again.

FL2005GT - If I did as you suggest I'd probably end up with the car and no wife, hummmmm, let get back to you on that as I think it over - lol. You may find this hard to believe, but I'd take my wife over a new Mustang (or any other car) anyday.

We could boil this down to a vote, but it wouldn't change the outcome for me at all. You have all been very helpful (except ChldsPly) and I thank you!
