comp cams XE274HR-12... what do you all think of it???

well in about 4-6 weeks the motors gonna get pulled on the stang... looking to get the heads p&p along with the intake an swap out my e cam... right now the setup put down 260/290 at the wheels an that was before the e fan an underdrives so im hoping its up around 270/295 right now... but my question is i just got off the phone with comp cams an this is the cam they recommended for my setup. I forgot to ask if it was streetable, but on summits website it states that its computer compatible and doesnt say anything about needing a special tune. here are the specs:

I think you might have to fly cut the pistons for that cam.....thats a lotta lift and duration. Are those Windsor Jr.'s ported? You might want to look at the XE270HR-12. It has a power band of 1800-5800.

I think those lift numbers are with 1.7 rockers. I think you would be ok if you ran 1.6 rockers. Those numbers are very close to what the TFS stg2 cam is and you can run it, you just have to install it straight up.

those are numbers with a 1.6 rocker.

just take the gross lift x 1.6 (rocker) and youll get the same. the pistons will probably need notching as mentioned also. i had the 282 and it needed notched pistons to work, there isint alot of difference between the two.

looks like very similar specs for the tf stage 2 also.

only thing you can do is research people running it and what they did, or buy it and see what your p-v clearance is.

Do Windsor Jr. heads support flow up to around 6500 rpm? Because that's the rpm you'll have to be running to get any use out of those 2 cams.

well im hoping to turn this lil 302 to around 8 grand.... j/k!!!! after looking on comp cams website i think im gonna go with something a lil smaller... like the xe264 or 270... both are under .550 lift...

One thing your not considering here... you loose the 1.7's you effectivly kill the ramp rate of the cam.

Ussually if a cam clears with 1.6's it'll clear with 1.7's , as the peak lift doesn't occur until the piston is more than halfway down the bore.

I used to run the 274HR in my 331. It was a torkey cam. Idled like a baby. In a 302 it would be a bit racier of an idle. Power peaked at about 6k. I ran it with flat tops and standard reliefs.

i want an aggressive sounding idle for my 331, and that was my leading choice for a cam. the 274hr that is.

I wouldn't say tame, but very streetable. It's kinda hard to compare cause one's person's idea of racey idle is different from another's. The cam I'm currently running is 248/258 @.050 - .576 lift.- that's a lopey idle.
