Compatibility Parts With 3.8l...Buying a junker!

My mechanic has a 94 3.8 l junker. He wants to trash it, but he said that I can come and pick off any parts if needed.

What parts (talking motor) are interchangeable with our cars...alt, pumps, electronics, etc.??

ALso, if there is a part that is compatible that someone needs...let me know and Ill see if there is one there. I will be going next Wed!!

I would assume the fan/radiator are the same. My fan has a sticker saying 3.8/5.0 on it. my friend john with a 95 says 4.6 on it...

Maybe the evaporator and a/c stuff. Driveshaft????

A/c controls, steering wheel components, all interior components (window motors, seats and motors, etc.....

Lots of stuff...hell, take the car home and start stripping!!!!!

hey RC, can you see if the pony's are still on the fenders? I would like them if you can get 'em for me.

I would think the alt would be the same, but that's just a guess.

I'd say your best take off would be the transmission. the 3.8 shares the T5 with the 5.0s

You should get the T-5 transmission in it and get the
whole interior before he junks it.

No its not.

Get just about anything that's in good shape. Only thing you don't want is the motor, everything else is compatible.

The mechanic that has it just wants to make a few $$ for his efforts removing the parts. He wants to have it out by next week.. I dont have room for it.

EDIT: Just talked to the mechanic...he said he wouldnt bother with the evaporator, but maybe the compressor. He's checking for pony emblems.

E-bay the air bags like now if they are still good

You could even shop around at local body shops to "sell" them cheaper faster than they can get at new prices. I used to do it with stock radios and stuff after installing or knew someone had installed a new stereo in highschool.

The alternator is definitely compatible. The one on my 5.0 trashed-out on my first ride after I swapped in the 5.0, so I took the one off of the 3.8 and it still is in there now. The radiator fan is compatible, I'm using the one from the 3.8 with my 5.0 now. The radiator is the same (taking into account whether its an auto or manual tranny). I think that the power steering pump and air cond compressor are the same, but I don't know for sure. I think that the steering rack and pinion is/are the same too. I'm still using the v6's t-5 also; with the bellhousing and clutch from a 5.0. That's all I can think of right now. Good luck treasure hunting!
