Completed my rearend tonight...question too

After a few week of prepping, collecting parts, and lots of money...I completed my rearend tonight....

66 mustang...

Edelbrock IAS shocks
9" Posi Rear from a 69 Mach I...no modifications
Rebuilt with 3.50 Auburn gears
Synthetic Gear Oil
Complete rearend blasted, prepped, and painted gloss black
Pumpkin blasted and painted a highly reflective silver
Pumpkin Hardware replaced with all stainless steel
Rebuilt Brakes
4.5 leaf mid eye springs
Performance Shackles with polyurethane bushings
Front Leaf bushing replaced with a solid aluminum piece
Caltrac traction bars installed
All bolts torqued down to spec
New brake lines
Underside sanded and painted
Rolled fender lips

a LOT of work!


My question...I went from saggy springs with a 1.5" lowering block and worn bushings. Now I have new 4.5 leaf mid eye springs...the rear looks REALLY high (will post pics soon). The front end IS jacked up still and there is no exhaust on the car....Will the springs settle after a while? Will the fender to tire gap lessen after the front end is let down and some of the weight from the exhaust is put on? Maybe im just not use to it.....might have to put a system in the trunk for a little extra weight

Thanks for the tips guys. I have some aluminum lowerblocks here at the house...they are solid....not hollow ones.

I forgot that now that the car is on the ground, i may have to readjust the caltracs too. It was late last night when I finsished. I should get the entire car on the ground today and I will snap some pics. I just didnt expect that big of a gap. The shackles I have are actually a little shorter than the stock ones!

Does the engine have FORGED pistons...and what is the engine part number? There are a few different gt40 engines out there.

The rearend is used...it has been broken in. Has about 700 miles on it.

With the X heads, it is the 345hp crate engine. however, it has hypereutic pistons in it...unless they have been changed. I am not fond of hyper pistons...especially one that have been under boost conditions
