I'm somewhat new to the 5.0 scene and just got one for my first car. I plan to do many things to it among the first getting a louder exhaust and junking the stock system. Well first I am going to replace the mufflers and go from there. I really like the original flowmaster 40 series and plan on getting them. Right now it looks as if I'm ordering from ninosport.com and they are $55 I assume for each individual muffler. Is that right each individual muffler? Are there any places I can get the flowmaster 40 series cheaper? Next this is where I start to get confused. What company should I go with for headers? An what is the essential difference between X and H pipes beside their structure? Sound wise and performance wise. I'm looking to get a reasonable cost system and please help me with making these decisions. I hope to acheive a nice deep tone not too loud but noticeable and you can hear me coming also getting performance gains. Like I said I like how the flowmasters sound. Help me out I'm ready to buy!
-Thanks ahead of time, DJ

The X pipe will give a bit more flow... very little. The sound is a bit more high pitch and controlled.

Where as the H is a bit lower in pitch and has a gug gug gug sound. I have a H.

From reading I see that the H pipe will be easier to install so I opt for the H pipe. But which one?

If you are replacing from the headers back, you do not just want to get the mufflers. Stock mufflers and tailpipes are 2.25 inches in diameter. Get a flowmaster catback which will be 2.5 inches in diameter. It comes with mufflers, tailpipes, and all hardware you need for install.

There are more differences between the H and the X pipe. The h pipe is known to give more low end torque, whereas the x pipe offers more top end power. The h pipe will give you a deeper sound, where the x pipe is a little bit raspier in my opinion. There is also the prochamber as well, to mix into the situation. Whichever way you go, you should be happy. As for the install being easier, I may have to disagree. Perhaps you think it is easier to install because it comes in two pieces. However, it will be equally as easy to install an h, x, or prochamber.

The x pipe comes in one piece which I feel is easier to install, because you don't have to worry about getting the crossover to seal correctly. Headers: If you are mainly stock, keeping the stock headers won't be a bad choice. If you really want to install new ones to do the whole system right away(which I did), I would go with headers that have a 1 5/8" primary.

As for brand and such, BBK makes good headers and midpipes. I also hear great stuff about the FMS headers, Bassani exhaust, and so on. If I were to do it again, I would go with long tubes right away. I ended up getting the equal length shorties instead. Also, do you have emissions there? You may want to think about getting a catted midpipe.

Anyway you go, you will be happy. Hope this helped.

Another good product is Mac. I have purchased almost all of their products. They are less expensive and are a good quality part. The pro chamber makes the best hp.

I like my Magnaflow H and catback....it has a slightly different sound than the average Mustang (no baffles). It is also dead quiet until you punch it.

For headers I have a set of the new MAC ceramic shorties on order..They supposedly ship tomorrow. You can't beat the price...
