I've got an 88' and the convertible stack height is pretty high when it's all the way down. I know they changed that in 90 or 91 so that it goes much further down. Anyone know what they changed to do this? I'm guessing it probably can't be changed but I figured I'd ask anyway, it'd definitely improve the looks.

I replaced the whole convertible top frame due to some bent bows. It pretty much just bolts into place, I was thinking maybe you could just drill new holes and mount it lower. but I didnt want to mess with it cause I was scurred about breaking the window and such -- not to mention the fact that it was the first top I ever installed

Mine stays up over the seat and such also. I wouldn't worry to much about it because that what I have seen on all 87-93 stangs I know in 95 the top goes down much further...or my dad's is special lol.
has anyone unzipped the rear window before folding it down? i did and it sits even higher! i think it is supposed to be good for the material around the rear window to have it unzipped (takes stress off the area around the corners of the window, as they get smooshed and stretched down at the bottom).

Yeah, they all say that. But the tops sit so damn high that I've got about a good 2" clearance from the window and the material really doesn't get stretched at all. I think it's just cheap insurance for them to tell you to unzip it -- just in case.

Mine shattered out of the blue months ago, nothing was in the trunk and i couldn't find any reason why the glass would have shattered, i put it down like normal and smash bye bye glass window, the frame isn't bent either, but i had a plastic window put in so i don't have the same problem.

I don't unzip the window in my car. It doesn't say anything about it in the owners manual, but if I am putting it down and I hear the pump make a straining sound, I would stop right away.
thanks for all of the replies guys (sorry to have jacked the thread). so it is less likely to shatter the rear window if it is unzipped from the top, before being lowered......? hhhmm. interesting and cool. thanks for the info.
