We are going to have the seats in our 97 Cobra convertible reupholstered next week. I am going to take the seats out of the car and take them to the upholstery shop. That way we can install our new carpet while the seats are being done.

I need to know how to remove the rear seat. I was told that there are 2 tabs on the bottom part of the seat. Is this true? I think I located them, but they won't budge. Do you push them towards the rear of the car or down? What holds the back of the rear seat in place?

The manuals I have don't describe this very well.

there are two locking tabs on the bottom of the seat that you push in and lift up on the seat at the same time. then the back of the seat is bolted to the car. you will see what you have to do with the back when you get the lower section out.

If you are having a tough time pushing the tabs in...push down on the seat, then the button will go in easier, then lift it up...takes less than a minute to get it off..

A picture (or three) is worth a thousand words. Use a large screwdriver to push in the tabs for the lower seat. Push in tab and raise slightly on the first one. Push in second tab and lift the rest of the way and pull toward the front of the car while slipping the seatbelts out. And a socket for the bolt in the rear upper seat (pic 3), one on either side. Pull straight up for the rear upper seat.

Thanks for the pictures that helped alot. I had no idea what type of tabs they were. Its kind of a cool design for the lower tabs. I figured thats how the back of the seat was held in, but didn't want to run into any surprises. We got the new carpet and upholstery installed. It looks great!

Did you go out and remove your rear seat just to take pictures for this post?

No, sometimes I'll do that but not in this case. I had the pictures from when I was installing my light bar.
