I just installed a 3.8L Taurus fan in my stang, and the stock coolant tank won't fit. Where can I get a coolant tank that will fit? Do I need one from a Taurus?

Get an aftermarket one and mount it anywhere you want.

i am wanting to do the same and wondered about this as well. What other fans will fit our cars from stock vehicles? I heard the lincoln mark 8 fan works good as well but i dont know what year. Also what year taurus fan does this guy have? And does this tank problem occur with all fans or just the taurus one?

I was looking into one of these before I sold my car. Looked like it would fit into tight spaces.

This will occur pretty much with any elec. fan. The stock bottle wont fit with them. Just get creative. Mount it as high up as you can, close to the same height as the rad cap. I got a small bottle for $8 or so at the parts store. I stuck it in the fenderwell where my horns used to go. I already had airhorns in another location.

I dont have time now, but I have a pic of it somewhere.

Hey. I got an extra overflow bottle bracket from a Black Magic Flex Lite fan, if you want it. It bolts straight to the radiator and the overflow bolts to it. Let me know, and hit me up on a PM. Part is brand new and just paid 40 bucks shipped to me.

I used to have one of those. It worked ok but was made kind of cheap.

Ummm....I have a Taurus fan and use the stock puke tank in the stock location - just requires a little thought on how to mount it.

Thats the one I just installed....mounted it to the side of the Fan itself. looks awsome and works great. $28 bucks also.

I just flipped the stock tank around and mounted it on the opposite side of the fan and made some small aluminum brackets to hold it to the stock tank mounting holes.

dont want to hijack the thread or anything.. but how do you guys mount your fans?? do you have to make up special brackets?

i think i have an electric fan from a 95 probe gt out in my garage.. will that work?

if you have a 4 banger, sure. I would not want to try it out (it probably does not flow enough CFM's). with some smaller motor'd cars that have big motor siblinds, you can use the fan off the little brother, as the fans are often the same. but the probe came with a 2.5L V6 as its biggest motor, and most were 2L 4's.

so bad idea.. i do have 2 fans, both that came off the probe, and they did look pretty small, i just thought what the heck.. maybe i got myself 2 free electric fans to use and didnt know it..

so basically i should look for fans off an sn95/taurus/lincoln... seems to be what everyone else is running

My stock coolant bottle fit right back on. It curves exactly the same as my taurus fan, and I just used a couple radiator pull through ties creatively to hold it in, and used some safety wire (creatively) to hold the bottom on to the power steering cooler lines.

The bottom of the taurus fan fits in to the mounting slot at the bottom where the old shroud fit in. Then, you use radiator pull through ties in the holes in the top corners of the taurus fan to hold the top on.

The probe fan might work, but it may have to work a little harder to keep you cool. I'd recommend the delta current control unit from www.dccontrol.com.

it is all about CFM's, IMHO. I *doubt* that fan will cool the stang decently, unless you have a killer radiator and dont sit stationary too much when it is hotter out.

I would rather get fans that are known to work well or find out the CFM rating on those fans before installing them.

my two cents.

Hey kind of a n00b question here, but do you guys replace the fans only for cooling effiency?? Mine doesn't seem to overheat at all. Oh and being the owner of 2 probe GT's, I don't think the fans are even enough to cool the 2.5L engines. All the probes I've owned have had some heat issues now and then.

most guys do it to get rid of the parasitic loss from driving the mechanical (thermo-clutched) fan. a new decent clutch is pricey, as are new fan blades (since they crack), so people just upgrade to electric fans (which can also be slimmer and more efficient).

I mounted my fan shroud exactly the same as the stock one. Used a cut-off wheel to make slits in the bottom for the stock style clips and used two small aluminum "L" brackets for the upper mouints - if you look close in the pic above you can see the heads of the rivets I used to attach them to the fan shroud.

alright.. ill ditch the probe fans.. the reason i have them in the first place wa because after my bros turbo went on the probe the fans didnt do anything, so he had to upgrade

but who knows maybe they would have worked..

im gonna call around a few junkyards this week and add a fan to my list of needed parts

and how do you guys feel about running a temp guage and then the fan off a toggle switch??
