As you can see what i have done to my motor below on my sig., I was over heating bad on my 347. I bought a radon temp gun and it was at 215 or so. I couldnt drop the temp and it was a new moror, like 5 miles. i had a 160 termpt, and a stock fan plus stock radiatror.. I bought a 180 thermt, new 16lb cap, a flex fan, used CLR and flused out the radiator, put in a bottle of engine ice. Now it runs at near 170 or so, give or take a few degrees. Is this good or bad. With the temp this low Id assum that my therastate hasnt even opened yet. I put on 200 miles, high and city. Im just worried that this is a bad thing. Any clue as to if this is to low of a temp or??????

Thanks

i would bet you are getting warm enough to open the stat (is it real cold up there?). remember, often sender locations see (and report) different temps than temps at the stat (im not sure if you used your new temp gun to determine the 170 temp).

my two cents.

oh yeah, can you feel (be careful, wear gloves and all) the upper radiator hose get hot or feel full of coolant? if so, the stat is open.

after a 1/2 hour of driving or so, I point the gun at the heads and they are around 168-175, the therats housings is at about 160 or so and the rest is not even near 180 to open it. Do you think that its opening still? This car/motor is driving me nuts

i cant comment - i dont have experience with those guns. i would do other testing rather than rely on one thermometer though.......
