Why do the coolant lines go through the EGR spacer? I read somewhere that you can just cap the ends on the EGR and run a single hose, or use a 93 cobra hose. What would be the disadvantage of not having coolant run through the EGR spacer? Thanks
the only reason theres coolant lines running there is to get the motor warmed up faster on cold days. no performance increase/decrease with them on or off. i personally have mine capped off because ive had problems with the tb gaskets sealing like they should.

I have heard they are for both warming up the car on cold days and I have heard they are for cooling the intact air temp down.
Whatever the reason is, leave it alone. I hooked al mine up on all my cars but one. My black notch I got rid of in December had them bypassed so I just left it like that. Car ran no different than the previous cars.
Just because someone doesn't notice something doesn't mean it doesn't do anything. Nor does it mean that it applies to all people in all climates and conditions.
Ford would have saved millions if they would have been able to omit those lines.
While they may have an INTENDED purpose, the fact remains that most (if not all) people who have bypassed the EGR spacer coolant connections have not experienced any side-effects.
FWIW, I bypassed them on both my '89 notch and on Lynn's '80 Capri (with '90 Mustang motor/trans) due to the heater pipe rotting apart and thus being deleted. Because heaters aren't really a must-have thing out here in the Valley, I have no intentions of replacing the heater core on either vehicle (unless Lynn decides she wants one again in her Capri), and since neither car has exhibited any symptoms as a result of deleting these coolant lines, I see no reason to run out and buy another heater pipe so that I can reconnect those little lines.
Like the air silencer on a stock intake setup, it's sort of like the 5.0's belly button or appendix, IMO.
The air silencer is for NVH standards and desires. It has a purpose, though many enthusiasts choose to omit that silence for a more visceral experience and slight HP gain.
Again, because someone doesn't notice a difference in something doesn't mean it has no purpose. E.g., people mismatch MAF sensors and housings or use the wrong combination and say the car runs great. It's still not right.
