Coolant overflow bottle ?

Is it normal for the overflow bottle to have what looks to be a vent hole in the neck of the bottle just below where the cap screws on?

Agreed. It's gotta be able to overflow someplace when it gets hot.

No it' there. I was just thinking about plugging it and was wondering how it would affect heating/cooling.

You really dont want to have pressure or a vacuum inside that bottle. I'd leave it be.
