Hey u all,
I got a 87 mustang and im having a problem with my collant over filling my overflow and sucking my rad down low. It only really seems to happen when im getting on it. Its got a new 160 thermostat,16lb cap, water pump, hoses etc etc and also a new 3 core rad. I pressured the system and it doesnt leak down at all let it pressurized and started car, pressure didnt rise. Oil looks clean and coolant clean also. it does have a black majic fan and cools fine until coolant is pushed out the rad then will start to get warm. the motor is built up though
650 holley carb
stealth intake
thumper heads,roller rockers
all felpro gaskets
F-303 cam
10.1 forged pistons
steel crank
i was told by some people online that it could be my rad isnt enough for the motor and try steping to a alm radiator.
let me know if anyone has any of the same problems or ideas for me to try.

i would ensure there is no air in the system and really check or renew the radiator cap - it might be a bypass spring issue in the cap.

good luck.

Get rid of the Black Tragic! I had simaliar problem, and the Taurus Fan with a DCCONTROL fixed it.

I agree. The coolant will expand when hot, and if the cap isn't holding the coolant, the coolant will just overflow into the bottle and not be recovered.

That's my thinking anyway...

i was think could it be that maybe i got combustion going into my collant becasue that would cause also what it is doing? Does this sound like any of the syptoms with my coolant being to pressurised and going over my 16lb limit that the cap it? and why would they sell a eletric fan made for a mustang that wouldnt be enough to cool it. I got around 380-400 fwhp.

The Black Tragic is rated by Flex Lite for up to 250 horsepower. If you are bent on keeping it, then put a good pusher in front of it. That's what my son had to do with his.

Take the cap off when its cold and run the engine at idle till warm. top it off as needed as the car warms up. You can jack up the drivers side front to help air escape from the system. Look for alot of bubbles in the coolant, some bubbles may be normal. If it has compression leaking into the coolant it will "boil" the water out of the open cap pretty quickly. They do make block test kits for this. I have one here somewhere that was given to me, but have never used it.
