Cooling issue with my FOX

The flexalite extreme fan has a shroud and the turbo is intercooled. I'm baffled by this. It makes no sense that it heats on the highway and not the city.

Do you use the cheezy thermocouple probe with the fan controller? I have the same fan and I think the probe is to blame for improper cooling. Since the probe is supposed to be in a part of the radiator that doesn't see airflow from the fan, I think it may be affected when it sees airflow from the vehicle moving, making the probe think the engine is cooler than what it really is. My car seems to run hotter in the cold months, and I think it has to do with the ambient air temperature affecting the probe's reading. Seems like you should have enough airflow on the highway that the fan wouldn't need to work much anyway, so I don't know how my theory holds up in that situation.

if you have a front mount thats going to restrict air flow to the radiator at speed, usually people have cooling issues around town, and not at highway speeds... what are you using for a catch can and how big is the vent on it?

i was having a similar problem, and i made a .500" hole in my catch can and it ran cool on the highway again.

Maybe. I don't know if the probe can be removed. I guess it can be relocated.

I have a Moroso can and it has the filter element that cam with it. Where did you make the hole?

I had a 180 t-stat prior to changing out the rad and it didn't do much. Then again it didn't do much with the 160 either. I don't understand, a good friend of mine is running a 160 stat with a 3 core cheap rad and his temps stay at about 170. He rigged a Volvo fan and it works fine. Do any of you think that it can be something with the block? I don't lose coolant but I do have lots of blow-by.

With lots of blowby I would do a pressure test and make sure it's not a head gasket! I had a similar problem after running some nos through my 91 GT! You should be able to hold 80psi for at least 29 min!

If anything, a 160 T-Stat is going to do exactly what its designed to do... Keep the engine cooler than a 180.

BUT, unless you have it tuned to accept the 160, the EEC will be confused by a motor running that cold and it will always try to run rich. Of course, the OP's motor isn't running cold right now, so that's not an issue.

Well, I installed 2 different radiators. A new 2 core brass and a 4 core aluminum. The temp still climbs to about 195 or so. It only happens on the highway though. Once the temp goes up on the highway and I get off the temp might go down a bit. I am thinking that the intercooler is causing this. It does cover up the entire gap on the lower part of the bumper. I'm gonna end up installing a cowl hood and probably switch to a different and smaller intercooler set up.

200* is not outrageous for a turbo car, especially if yo ulive in a hot area. you say you do have the wind deflector on? that should be helping with cruising.

check the lower radiator hose it might be collapsing at highway speeds.
