Ok here is what is going on. The other day i was idling at a stop light for about a min. I noticed my temp was going up it hit 200. No real big deal. It does that sometimes on hot days. Then when i get to driving again its back to 180. The next day i switched on the electric fan so it wouldn't happen again. To my surprise it did climb again to 210. This is wierd because my car can idle for hours with the electric fan on and stay at 180 degrees. The next day i take my car for a spin i notice the temp gauge jumping from 200 to 220 then back to 210 and all over but in the 200 degree plus temp. When i got home i checked under the hood. Thought maybe the rad cap was off. I felt the top rad hose and it was cold. Would it be safe to assume that the thermostat is going? The rad was also not hot because the fan did not switch on by itself. was thinking bout swapping out the thermostat today. My temp gauge is a ford racing unit.
