cooling question?

When the temp gets over 90ish here my car wants to run at 200 with the electric fan on all the time? I have a good radiator 50/50 prestone coolant water mix.I thought i bought a 160 stat and also a maroso water pump when i did the new motor but it never stays at 160 it's always about 170ish? I have a pro comp series autometer gauge that i know is in perfect working order!my combo is a 360 (351 40 over) with AFR heads 185 58CC with 8.1 compression and griffen alum radiator and a 160 tstat.Do i need to get the water wetter stuff? Switch to 100% coolant? more water less coolant? what? any ideas? If the the outside temp is in the 80's it's all good (for me) but i dont like seeing 200 on my temp gauge.Or is 200 OK to run? Am i just being paranoid? I know my 302 never ran that hot,so i was thinking it could also be the bigger cubes? peace

I have the same thing happening....runs hotter than it did with the clutch fan ....I also have been running it all the time because I'm not used to it running as hot as this...but it's not "too hot"

I have 180 thermostat, and high flow water pump, same as before my rebuild.

but now I have 2 row radiator; aluminum fan shroud and the electric fan...
..and now aftermarket AFR 165 heads vs stock...and pushing more HP,
....so I don't know if it's the fan or not; but it's still normal operating range so i haven't worried much about it.

That thing would barely cool my Explorer motor, and it did nothing with the a/c on, all it did was slow down the heating process until I could get the car rolling again. I couldn't imagine using it on a 360; I say get a Taurus of Mark VIII fan, that should be up to the task.

210-215 isn't bad, but I know we all like a little more room for peace of mind.

I would use like 60/40 distilled water and anti or like 70/30 and put a couple capfulls of water wetter in it. so far in 100 degrees it keeps my turbo 87 down and its stock cooling system. have not driven it for long periods tho, just about 20-30 min

Water is a better conductor of heat then coolant, so you can go that route. I junked my black magic fan as well, you can use a dodge intrepid 2002 dual fan setup or the taurs or MK fan that was mentioned above, make sure you have your bypass in your water pump choked down a bit in side the hose, i actually have a smaller hose in there with the inside diameter of a pencil. that forces more water to flow into the radiator.
I have also noticed that at low idle the car actually gets hotter and i think its b/c the water pump isn't flowing enough water but that might just be my problem.

Once you change the engine your life in the car becomes one of watching the temp gauge and chitting your pants

Normal opperation with the electric fan ON, i run around 180...if i'm getting on it I average around 200. Thats with the stock rad and a custom electric fan setup that i made. Pulled 2 electric fans from the junk yard mounted one on the front of the rad pushing the air through, then mounted the other on the inside of the ra on the opposite side and have the fan pulling the air through.

I would not rely on one smaller black magic fan....junk in my opinion....plus they are expensive. You can get a electric fan out of any car for like 5 bucks at the junk yard. I wired mine to a relay then to a switch, i turn it on after the car warms up. Then i can turn the fans on so it cools the rad while i have the car turned off at the drag strip....just remember to turn it off at night or wake up to a dead battery.

How many miles does your new engine have? New engines will run a little on the hot side until fully broken in. Does your car get to 200 degrees while cruisin or just going from light to light? If I was you I wouldn't sweat it, 200 degrees in semi humid 90+ temps on a new engine is good to go.

Just so you know.......if you turbo that thing you can't drive around in this kind of weather. It'll be night driving for you! Ask me how I know haha.

what year of taurs or MK do i need to look for? Drew the bottom end is a fresh rebuild and everything checked out good before i built the combo so i dont know the exact milage on it? As for the rest of the combo it's all new i have about 2500 miles on it.peace

I know it's a new combo, engines run hotter until they break in but I think yours is past that point. Like I said, I'd be happy with that temp in the temps we are having here. My h/c/i 302 in my 85 coupe runs at 195 with the taurus fan (low speed) and will get as high as 210 sitting from light to light

yes i do you work for the dealer correct? the guy i bought the trick flow intake frpm for my 95?well i'll get a diffrent fan soon and see how that does then? peace
