Where can I find the correct exhaust for a 1984 Mustang LX notchback.

I’m told that this car has the correct dual exhaust tips:

The GT's got the dual chrome exhaust tips.

I'm not sure about the LX coupes. The exhaust you have might actually be correct (although rusted now). I have a 1984 dealer brochure at home. Let me see if they have any pics of the LX and what exhaust tip it has.

Its tough looking for pics online because so many of those cars were later swapped to the 86+ style dual exhaust.

That exhaust is a single exhaust if its like the one on my 83 GLX...
I have thought it would be neat to run a dual exhaust into a dual outlet muffler..
Whats different about the 86+ dual exhaust?

That's original.

CFI (Central Fuel Injection) came on 1984 and 1985 V8 models equipped with Auto transmission. The 5-spd cars were carb.

It's a really crude EFI featuring essentially a carb with two fuel injectors in the bowl.

thank you for updating my lack of knowledge here,,, When these cars were new I always looked at 5 speeds only, so my understanding was 86 cars were the first FI cars..... My EX and I looked at a new 85 GT to buy, knowing the 86's were going to come with the new fangled Fuel Injection that nobody wanted.... LOL... How times change......

I had a muffler shop create an exhaust tip with dual outlets. I showed them a picture of what the original factory outlet looked like and they created something that I think is even better than the original.

When they installed the new exhaust tip I also had them install a new flowmaster muffler. I think the new exhaust tip looks great and the flowmaster muffler has a great sound.
