Cost for a 302-306 overbore?/What's it mean to balance an engine after assembly?

I'm trying to decide between stroking to a 347 and a Vortech S-trim. Either way, I thought I'd need the 306 bored to clean her up and go to forged pistons and rods. I figure if I stroke, I'll have the added costs of the crank, and need to get a valve job, head port, and new upper intake. Should I re-use the stock crank if I don't stroke it? How long are these things good for? I don't want to get taken, how much should that stuff cost? I know I can get a crate stroker lower end fully assembled, balance with block for 2-2.4K.
thanks

Well re-using the crank all depends on how bad off it is. If it can be turned at .010/.010 or just polished then it will be fine. To a crank polished about $65 around here and the overbore is about $120 and that is with a honing with torque plates and that you def want to get done. The balance is where the entire rotating assembly is balanced before it is installed. It is def worth it and costs about $150 to get that done. Priced vary from place to place just make sure that you get a reputable shop to do the machine work. The shop that done mine builds NHRA super stock motors so I figured that they were decent.

BALANCING is actually balancing the pistons, rods etc and ensuring everything is in a certain tolarance by an electronic scale. This will make sure every thing spins at the best possible balance while racing or driving. you want the least possible out of balance to achieve higher RPM's and maintain an engine. I wouldn't build an engine without B&B'ing the rotating assy. Must be done unless you want a $400 engine!
