Hey guys, we finally got some nice weather up here so I decided to bring the 'Stang to the car wash and get all the salt off. After the wash I noticed a scratch about a foot long that starts near the rear passenger side marker light and curves around to the rear just above the exhaust. There's also a shallow indent in the paint about the size of a half dollar. It looks like a quality resurface and paint job would make it look perfect again. How much would it cost to get it repainted by a dealer?

from the dealer? about $400-500. it would be cheaper if you removed and installed the bumper yourself.

I'm getting my CS bumper done for $250. That includes working out a few shipping scars.

I'm installing it myself, which is painfully simple....There's like 8 bolts holding the bloody thing on. haha

Hey, did you order yours from Fordparts.com? I'm planning on ordering that bumper as well. Were the scars bad on the bumper? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hmm, even $250 would be a little more than I'd wanna pay right now. Think if I got a bottle of touch up paint and spent some time fixing it up myself it'd make it look better or just worse? The scratch isn't deep enough that any plastic shows through, but it's still fairly noticeable.

do it yourself, save the $$. if there is a small indentation in the plastic, just use a heat gun and warm it up. push the indentation out, and cool with some water. this will help the plastic keep its shape.

Hmm, all I need now then is to get some Alloy Grey touch up paint, a heat gun, and some free time. Might as well try it myself before I go spend a couple hundred on it.

About $500 is the going rate for most body shops.

Alloy is a metallic. That scratch is going to be a LOT harder to conceal with touch up

Damn.

I guess I'll still try. Then get the bumper repainted in the summer unless the touch up paint works much better than I expect.
