Hey all,

I was speaking with the guys from Dallas Mustang and they said I could not use a B cam with my current setup due to having 1.72 rr's. I am pretty new to cam specs and such and just want to make sure I would not be getting myself into trouble if I upgraded my cam. I currently have gt40 aluminum heads and a pretty mush stock bottom end and was wondering what kind of clearence issues if any I may have by upgrading my cam. If the B cam would not work are there any others that you would recommend? I would like to keep the car streetable and not affect the idle to awful much but always love a bit of a lope to it. Also would there be much of a noticable difference upgrading my cam from stock with the 172 rr's installed? I am going to be replacing the old stock intake with a Trick Flow and was thinking of doing the cam at the same time. Any opinions would be much appreciated. :-)

I have B303 in my 90 GT with 1.72 rockers. No issues in 3+ years so far. I have E7TE factory heads. I've had this combo in 2 different engines. The original forged piston 1990 shortblock and the current 1993 HO 5.0 hypereutectic short block. I don't think the Aluminum GT40 Heads are much different in basic architecture thanthe OE heads. Better ports and bigger valves, but the valve locations are the same I think.

The only possible issue I could see is the valve diameter. I'd find it hard to believe it's the valve lift they are concerned about.

You could go to 1.6rr and be fine for sure, I believe you need to be under .512 total for p to v clearance which will be fine with the heads and cam with 1.6. However there are always exceptions with every set up being different..valve size is definately and issue like with eddy heads 1.9 valve heads will fit stock pistons where the 2.02 don't without notching. Note you will lose no SOTP feeling by going down in rr size so I say go ahead and put it in and swap out the RR's.

might be stupid, but i dont know alphabet cams at all

which one is meaner, E or B?

B303 is more agressive. I've used it for daily driver for 2 full summers (it's parked in the winter) and it works just fine. I get 18-20 mpg with 3.73's too with the cam. :D Not too bad.
