Couple of questions about supercharging

I've done some searching except I will be gone and won't have interent for about a week so that's why I'm asking for some help.

I've just got the ok from my banker about getting a loan for a supercharger so I'm very serious about this. I have most of the basic mods, Cobra intake, 3.73 gears, headers, h-pipe, cat back, 65mm throttle body. Nothing fancy.

A friend of mine has a Vortec S-trim supercharger for sale. Full kit, except instead of the inline pump, he'd include a 190 intake pump for me to use he said. He claims 19lb injectors would work with this pump and an FMU until 6k rpms, but I baby my car and I NEVER rev past 5k rpms.

I want to do this right because my car I baby my car and I never beat on it. I'm not getting the supercharger to beat on it, just something to have. I'm only wanting 8psi max. I've found that I should get this: http://www.buyfordracing.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=532
The lightning maf and 42lb injectors. Good deal.

My 3 main concerns are

1) I've been reading and I understand it's not the best way to use an FMU. Correct? Try to go without?

2) is that 190 pump, that maf, and those injectors going to be enough to run without an fmu?

3 ** the most important one) I'm going to get this tuned either way. Now between 2,500 for the supercharger and that maf/injectors, anything else besides tuning is cutting it close for me on the budget, EXTERMELY close.

I don't even know where a dyno is around here. I live in the middle of no where, meaning it'd take me at least an hour of city driving to get to one. What are my options as far as getting it there. Will the maf/injectors/supercharger/fuel pump with no fmu be enough to drive the car there under 2k rpms on 10degrees of timing 93 octane? I'm assuming colder plugs too would need to be used.

I just want to get a real solid safe tune and make the car drive perfect with no worries in the back of my mind. I won't ever be wanting to crank the boost up any more, 8psi is enough for me. I'm just confused about how to get this on, and get to the place to tune it so they can do their thing. Thanks for any help or advice you can give. I really appreciate it.

When your not in boost the car will operated like stock..injectors will not be an issue. The FMU unit I OK if you not looking for a tune in the near future as a session with chip being burnt will run in the neighbourhood of 5 bills. Getting yourself too far into debt to mod a car is never a great idea in my opinion and if your going to do a significant upgrade like SC I would over budget 10% for incidentals.

Nah, the payments will be the same. I'm not worried about the loan. I just don't want to go overboard with it. Having a boosted car has been a dream of mine for many, many years now, and now the oppertunity has risin.

So what you're saying is if I keep the stock injectors, use the FMU and fuel pump, I should be good since I never raise the rpms above 5k? Will this be acceptable and safe?

Another thing I'm wondering, I have both an intercooler as well as a recirculating bypass valve in my garage from a previous project. I'm wondering if either would be a good thing to use on 8psi. I know the intercooler would take a bit of plumbing, but I'd like to use the bypass valve if it would do anything. I'm not in it for the sound, I like it because it's a nice safety feature for the blower.

I wouldn't mind getting a tune but like you said it's a lot of money. I'd get one for sure, just might be a couple of months. But, like I said, my biggest concern is getting to the place.

That and do these dynos have the ability to tune my stock computer or what all do I need for these deals? It seems everyone is supercharing their car so easily without any major problems and I'm having all these questions that don't see to have any easy answers. Would one of these twEECer things help me out here with not only the lightning maf/injectors but with the being able to tune it on a dyno?

One other thing I was considering was just getting the Vortec V-1 SC-TRIM kit instead. This would run me the same $2k, but it would be new, but uses the fmu too I believe.

FMU is just a bandaid to help an under injected car. A 190 pump, 42# injectors, NO fmu would be fine on a 8 psi car. You could actually do it with 36# injectors.

Bov is pretty much standard on all blower kits.

I don't think trying to do a front mount intercooler with a vortech would be possible and the blower be efficient. You would have a ton of 90 degree bends. Look how a vortech mounts on a 5.0 and you will see what I mean.

In regards to tuning at the dyno you would have to verify that the dyno has a EEC tuner/chip burner on site. Just because someone has a dyno doesn't automatically mean that they do EEC tuning.

You could drive it to the dyno and see minimal boost with no problems (max 4 psi) but I prefer towing because with my luck some other idiot driver would do something where I would have to get on the gas to avoid and I would kill my motor. But if you don't have that option, driving easy would not be a problem

Thanks for the replies, I'm almost back at my house. I managed to get on the net this once.

I've been thinking, and I think I'm going to go with the basic Kenne Bell system instead. I think there at like 5-6psi and supposedly everything is included that I need.

I think all around this is just a better and higher quality setup. Another plus for me is this is strictly a street car. I'm thinking the basic KB system with the boost a pump should work out good. I'm gonna call them and see what they recommend.

Any input on this? Thanks :)

Hey, So pretty much your buying a supercharger for the sound, looks, and so you can say damn right my car is supercharged ha. I respect that. Any mustang that is supercharged is good in my book. But since you dont rev it up to 5 grand. Why not buy a kennebell supercharger. They sit on top of the engine. It replaces your intake manifold. They look absoluetly sick and instalation is very easy compared to centrifigual blowers. The bost comes on as low as 1800 rpm. So your getting boost even driving around on street. Where as the centrifigial comes on around 3500 or maybe even higher. Just a thought, Good luck man. Post up some pics when you get it done! See yah
