I helped build the car that is show cased in this link. I mostly worked the carbon fiber layup for the body.

The drivetrain came out of a Civic Hybrid.

The car is now being used to demonstrate possibilities for alternative fuel sources, as the below link highlights.

How is the car high performance? .

I don't remember much about the drivetrain stuff.
I think it only weighed 2500 - 2800lbs - don't quote me though.

The car was originally built on a million dollar DOT budget for a light weight composite car that could pass structural impact tests - collision testing.

There was some crazy work done with carbon fiber honeycomb and kevlar.
All of the crush structure is composite, which actually provides better ride down characteristics than Aluminum or Steel. Composites are a little tougher to design with too though.
