Got some more work done on the cowl finally, weldin in the cowl where the spot welds were drilled, the cowls pretty much ready for paint now, been busy doin the rest of the body work on the car.

Motor came out.

347 Stroker going in along with some other nice touches to the engine bay.

So that car hasnt been running for a year and half now? I would have lost interest in it too.

He didn't lose interest. Life gets in the way sometimes. Then we found a good deal on a 347 stroker so money went to that. The motor should be together soon and then it's back to body work.

If the powerplant doesn't come first then your priorities are ****ed up.

OK,...you should know I'd be the one to ask this, so consider the source.

It looks to me like somebody spent a whole bunch of time filling and smoothing and the fender aprons and strut towers, and spent <3 minutes on the firewall.
Seriously, you had the the entire engine out of it and didn't block off the A/C or heater hose ports?
And your poor brake lines look like they're having a really BAD hair day.

It's the little things...........

I tried to back him up but the belt is on, so he doesn't plan on running A/C, the brake lines look like typical Fox, but I've never seen an upper cowl look so bad. Holes and dings? Maybe he is gonna do the stainless cover?

Yes, he is going to use a cover, and he is not completely done with everything in the bay yet. That was right after dropping it in. Just because the pics are posted doesn't mean it's done.

Oh, and he didn't block off the heater and evap ports because he plans on putting A/C back in the car.

Go to gen talk davedacarpainter has a fox painting 101 thread and post your question.
My limited experience from a hundred years ago, back when they made wooden cowels, was to cut more than what you need, they didn't take the windshield out and butt welded that edge. And remember hot slag from welding pits glass so cover it up good

I have the same problem but I'm going to try the bodywork method. You did a great job though, it looks good. What happened to your hood?
Those raised cowl hoods can sure do some damage, that rear edge lands right on the wiper end. Ouch!!!!

The best way I have seen is cut WAY more than just the cowl. Use a sawzall and cut at the A pillar, and the firewall below the pinchweld, and up the sides making sure you don't cut into any of the actual cowl you will be using. What you want is to get the cowl out of the donar car and moved to a work area (Shop/Garage) and then you can take your time use a spot weld bit to drill out all the spot welds.
