I am thinking about buying the FMS GT40 crate engine with a B cam. Part number M-6007-XB3M. Will I need to purchase a new timing cover, water pump, and oil pan, or will the parts that come with it work in my 95 gt?

Also, I know that the 95 is a bit touchy with cam upgrades, will the ecu have a problem with the B cam?

Do any of you know of a site that has information about installing an FMS crate engine (just so I can get a feel for what parts I'm going to need, injectors, etc)?

Why are you going for a crate motor from ford? You'd probably be better off just getting the motor from an explorer V8, because it has better heads and just swap out the cam.

You will need to get a new/reuse front cover, h2o pump and oil pan.

As for the cam, I run the Steeda 19 which I think is the same as the B cam.

So far, I have had no issues and love the cam sound.

Also, my car has not had a tune either.

Like said above ... Seems like you would get more bang for the buck with a low
mileage Explorer motor.

I do believe you can do better with cam selection than the b cam

Cams like the #19 as mentioned above and Crane 2031 cam might work
out for you without a tune ... but ... I'd not guarantee you won't have
any drivability issues by going tuneless.

I do feel you will leave a bit of power on the table with a cam that caters
to a focus on trouble free pcm operation.

I'll provide you some combos to look at that have a focus on OEM iron
heads and many of them use OEM intakes as well

These can be very misleading for the following reasons ......
You don't know which were done with a STD or SAE dyno calibration
You don't know which had a tune and which did not

Lastly ... Most who do combos such as these have budget restraints
therefore
Compromises can hold down the numbers a bit

I've seen so many of these combos
I'd give a ballpark value of 265rwhp for such a combo
without a tune and SAE dyno cal

Nevertheless ... you can see what others have done

Once again, Grady comes thru with some outstanding data.

Cams like the Steeda 19 work for those who can't afford a tune now, like me.

Plus, the Steeda 19 is a good blower cam...

PM yellow1995cobra about the FMS crate engine. I believe he installed one and sprayed it into the 12s. He hasn't been around too much these days though.

E7 heads, GT40 TMOSS intake, and OEM cam, 269 rwhp and 339 rwtrq???? Sweet sassy molassy that has to be either 1 - total BS or 2 - factory freak like I've never seen.

I believe the crate engine he is talking about has aluminum heads and makes 345hp with the B cam, actually I know it does because I'm looking at the part number right now. So getting anything off an explorer would not be comparable to this. The B and E cam works for some 94-95's, but many have issues with stalling and other idle problems. The steeda #19 cam is good for our years without a dyno tune.

some of the numbers on Grady's little chart there really get me interested in that gt40p/explorer intake/OEM cam with 1.7's combo Ive been contemplating for awhile 260-270ish rwhp is nothing to sneeze at for the couple hundred bucks spent. Probably will net you better fuel economy too once those restrictive inefficient stock parts come off. Plus, if you want more power later get thumper and tmoss to port up those bad boys, add a custom cam and get it tuned, should be good for 300 rwhp. More power? look to vortech Really sounds like a plan doesnt it?
