Crate Engine???

I am thinking about a new engine. Is a crate engine a good way to go? As I am not up to a complete rebuild my self. Where can I get a good quality (looks sounds good) engine that is ready to drop in to my 66' with a 289 and new C-4 tranny? Also should I go 302 or bigger?

Is the edelbrock crate worth the price..... if so which one should I get??

Take this with a grain of salt, as I cannot profess as to any experience with any of these vendors, but from what I've been able to ascertain through some research, I would suggest checking out the following vendors (price varies; choose according to budget and quality of parts comprising the engine in question):

i think edelbrock only makes chevy 350's. i would go with ford racing if i wanted a crate engine

I have a Ford crate engine and I have had no troubles. I think Ford is pricy though. I'd go a different route if I did it again. But you get what you pay for.

I'm looking at the Keith Craft crate motors also. Several people have been happy with them.

there is a guy up in portland who owns or works at all ford performance. you might want to hit them up.

He posts in th NW forum.

if you want to have a chevy engine in your ford be my guest, but it's kind of like the pope wearing a yarmulke (yammakah) instead of his pointy hat.

The ford engines they have just seem to be a collection of the fordracing.com engines.

I also have a Ford Racing crate, GT-40 5.0. It runs great and has lots of power. I thought it was a pretty good deal at $3k with all the misc. parts (oil pan, balancer, fly wheel, etc.). No complaints here.
