Hey Gang....

Coming home from work the other night in my 88 Coupe with the cruise on , when for no appearant reason, the cruise just shut off. Went to reset it and it now doesn't work. Didn't press the brake or put the clutch in. Fuse is good as the lighter still works. Any suggestions? Thanx in advance.... Bob

Possible vacuum problem - check the vacuum switch on top of the brake pedal. It's purpose is to dump vacuum for the servo when you step on the brake pedal.

jrichker, to make it simpler, is there only one vacuum or multiple above the brake pedal?

There only one vacuum valve on the brake pedal. It has a single hose for the vacuum control.

Mine had a yellow button that rested on the brake pedal. When the pedal moved, the valve let in air to relieve the vacuum that held the cruse control servo in position.

It's worth a look.... Thanx for the response. Wouldn't you hear vacuum leaking in the car as you were driving it tho?

Evidently the amount of change in vacuum needed to trip the servo offline is very small. That coupled with the fact that the valve only vents when you step on the pedal would decrease the chances of hearing it.

Thanx jrichker..... At my next opportunity, I'll be the guy under the dash checking the vacuum hoses! I appreciate the response!
