Has anybody ever done away with the stock headliner and bows? I'm wondering what it would be like to get some type of flexboard and glue fabric to it. This would increase head clearance without cutting the seat risers and might look cool. Thoughts?

I'm curious about the same thing, dave. As I clean up my interior, I will need to replace the headliner.

It sounds like a good idea, I want to do a custom headliner anyways but I don't know where to get the flex board to do this. I would like to build one like car companies put in some of the newer cars and put vinyl on it so it looks molded. If any one has some good ideas, let us know.

most of the OE's use a foam core board. you can get the same stuff at craft stores, however getting a piece big enough to do a headliner may be a challenge

Even if I was able to get a big enough peice, how do you form it? I dont know how I would fit it to the contours of the hood.

That'll look sweet--a headliner under your hood! Just kidding.

nobody has done this? Doesn't anyone know how to build a headliner backing like in newer cars (mid 70's on)?

I haven't done it, but I saw exactly that done to a '67 coupe on "Overhaulin'" or one of those similar shows. They actually put a video monitor in it too, over the back seat so that the (um, non-stock) front seats could recline back and watch it. I don't know if that show puts video clips up on a web site but you could search for it.

I cant find what your talking about, overhaulin did a 65-66 fastback but not a 67 coupe. Can you think of somewhere else you might have seen it, American Hot rod maybe?

I cant stand that show either, they never do anything right, besides, in my opinion, a painted peice of sh!# is still a peice of sh!#.
