I saw a picture of it once and now I'm dying to do it for my 98 coupe. A guy took out his back seats and put the seat delete kit in there and then he cut 2 holes for 2 subs on the backrest part. He stuck his amp on the flat part and it looked so sick. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this. How would the bass sound compared to putting the subs in a box? How hard is it to cut out the 2 holes once the kit is installed? I need pics. Thanks a lot.

Here is what I was wanting to do......
If you can understand my drawing what I want to do is use the rear seat delete as the backing of my speaker box....
that way I can pull out the rear seat/delete/box for racing.....

Yeah I know what you mean. That would be pretty cool. My idea was to use the backrest to hold the subs so that they are facing me. So from the trunk you would see the back of the subs. I was then going to mount the amp in between the subs vertically and then put a long red neon light on the flat part so it shines up on my nice chrome subs. Some guy did it I just can't find the pic. I need info on this.

My idea is similar in that the amps would be mounted on the front side of the seat delete (in the passenger compartment)
that way when racing I can dump all the weight.

That setup would look awesome...were you planning on using the trunk itself for the box or enclose the speakers in wood/plexiglass?

A few problems I see: with the speakers facing in the car the bass waves won't resonate enough before hitting your ears causing a weak sounding base inside the car (outside it'll be like a thunderstorm if that's what you want). Also theft will be a serious problem with your system so visible.

Good luck.

Mike

1) You'll get twice the volume facing the subs to the rear or down into the spare tire well. It will keep the sound clean too.

2) With no box the sound is going to be very distorted, the Mustang trunk doesn't have the best seal. If you built a box on the back side of the rear part of the seat, it might sound ok. See above.

Here's a couple pics my set up. I have two Memphis 12s in the trunk firing backwards. It sound very clean, deep and LOUD.

Yeah I was gonna have the subs facing me but with the experience I had the bass was no where near as good as having them facing away. How would it sound if I used the interior of the car as the box?

Let's see some other pictures of cars with rear seat delete kits... I have only seen the one in this thread... other ideas please? Sound systems are not what I want to replace the rear seat...

I am also building a custom system behind the seat delete. My amps will be mounted to my box that the subs are in so I can take them out easily now to find a box that will fit 2 10's in the trunk

Unless you get those subs sealed up in an enclosure you are going to be flappin in the wind. Whether it's the trunk or the interior of the car, the "infinite baffle" design is a compromise you don't want to make. It would look cool though!

Here's my handywork..got a friends dad to do the vinyl work for me. It's original as I've never seen it in another mustang.. good luck with it.

PS - I just made my own seat delete.. it was pretty damn easy to do.

no offense seriously to any of you guys with speakers in the rear delete or the amps, but isn't that just asking to get ripped off? that is the #1 reason I have yet to do that mod to mine is b/c I am affraid the stuff would get stolen very quickly
