Cyl Head Issue

I'm having some oil drainback issues with my 88 LX. The head seems to be holding oil as if the oil drain ports in the head are clogged up. At least I think so anyway.

If i take the oil fill cap off, I can look down at the baffle inside the cover and see oil covering it, just below the threads in the valve cover. I've also noticed that if I get into the throttle pretty hard I get a puff of blue smoke, but only with my foot in it. Any other time the car does not smoke at all.

Anybody got any other ideas besides this? I'm kind of lost. I'm going to pull the valve cover sometime this weekend, I need to replace the gasket anyway.

The 2.3 tends to hold oil in the head, but of course it is worse at high rpms. It would be normal to hold some oil up to, but I'm not sure what is normal.

Anyway, if it actually is a problem (not sure what is normal still), then I seriously doubt the drain back holes will be clogged... it is more likely an excessive oil flow issue. It could be worn cam bearings allowing a bunch of extra oil flow into the head.

Ha, this is so funny because I made the exact same mistake years ago.

When you take the oil cap off, you're seeing the baffle under the cap that keeps the oil from pouring directly onto the valvetrain, NOT any oil itself.

Trust me, there's no oil sitting in your head like that.
