Ok, Cylinder Balance Test Complete -- Cylinder 7 has minor problem. Plugs checked and gapped. New plug wires. New distributor cap and rotor.

What should I try or test next? What could be causing it. At least Im getting closer and dont feel like torching my car

Thanks

Tom

When you do a KOER test, at the end of the test -- if you push your pedal down 1/4 of the way, it test each of the cylinders. It does this by pulling spark from the cylinder and looks at overall effect on performance. Does this for each cylinder then kicks a code out like 70 (cylinder 7).

Yep. It is nice to help find a miss.

Tom, did you run the balance test several ways? If it finds a bad pot, it will retest twice more with different criteria to see if the error is serious.

If the plug, wire, etc are all good (you do have spark to that plug, right?), then I would pull the plug and look at it.
Also, Make sure the injector connector is attached properly (if you have a noid light, use it to ensure you have injector pulsing). And while the plug is out, do a quick dry and then wet compression test on just that cylinder.

Things like that will narrow it down.

Good luck.

I dit the test twice and the 2nd test came up clear (90) so it indicates a problem but not a completely dead cylinder. It has a new cap, rotor, msd plug wires, and all of the plugs looked ok (light brown) maybe a little on the lean side.

If you have a timing light, toss it on plug wire 7 and hit the trigger (towards something black. Stop thinking it would be fun to shine it in someone's eyes - it's not. ). Look for a constant pulse (you can compare it to another plug wire if you need to). If there are breaks in the pulsing, you have an idea of where to head next (might help rule out or in the fuel squirt issue too).

Other than that, the comp test, and tossing a fresh plug in (just in case the plug has a defect and is marginal), I cant think of much else right now.

Good luck.
