I am going to purchase heads next week for the motor I am building. I have an FTI cam for it and it says I need to change the springs on the heads because of the pressure of the spring.

My question is should I buy the complete assembled heads and have the machine shop match the springs to the cam specs or buy the heads with just the valves and have the machine shop match the springs?

I'd buy the heads and valves then call Ed and get the valve springs from him.

Or just ask ed if the springs that come with the assembled heads are sufficient.

Ed says the stock springs are not sufficient.

I guess I could get the springs from Ed. Do you think I could install them myself?

i would let the machine shop install the springs no matter where you get them so they can double check seat pressure and all the specs

Ed has springs that will match the camshaft he gives you. He has springs for specific heads that will give you the seat pressures you need along with the correct installed heights. There really is no need for a machine shop to do the work because Ed pretty much has your ass covered...
