I have my dash torn apart in my 88 GT to replace the heater core. While I have it all apart, is there anything else that you would suggest I replace?

I would replace the blower motor while your there too. Especially if it isn't blowing full blast.

you may want consider pulling out any unwanted weight while you're in there. sound insulation and such. if you have a/c, is it functional? if not you could pull that out too.

From a different aspect, ever though about doing white face gauges as long as the dash is out. Just a thought and nothing more.

Yeah I was thinking about the white faces, but I want to get a 140 or so speedo first. I got the weak 85MPH one...just don't have enough money to update yet.

Id pull all the a/c stuff and id check wires while i was under there. I did my heater core then i put a radio in my car and it wasnt working so i changed the fuse and smoke started to come out from under the dash. Two wires had corroded and were shorting out now its a big headache.

can you remove all the a/c stuff and still have heat? when i did mine, it looked like one big box. or can you get a heater box out of a non a/c car and replace the a/c box?

Well, it's all done now. Just have to flush the lines and put new coolant in it. Thanks everyone!

The hard part was getting the dash out far enough to get access to the core. I can not figure out what was holding it on the driver's side. I had everything disconnected, but something kept it in place. Then I took off two the the three bolts holding the core's box top on, and ended up breaking the top. But it worked out fine, because putting the new core in was a lot easier. All I did was put some poxy on where it broke and it seems to be fine. Just putting on some silcone to make a better seal.

Overall, I didn't think it was really hard...maybe a 7/10. Mostly just time consuming. I used this site and it helped a lot,

Just a tip, when you try and open the heator core lid, just use a hacksaw blade and make a nice even cut. The core should just slip in then!
