first and foremost, my question for you guys. i am using the dcc 2-speed controller for my mark 8 fan. this area has next to nothing for electrical stuff apparently. i know it says to fuse the power wire off the controller for the fans capacity or whatever. what do you all use for mark 8 fans? will a 40 amp fuse work, thats all i could find at over 10 stores today for a weatherproof inline holder. it seems as if the fan doesnt ramp up as fast with this controller to cause those 80 amp start-up surges.
so anyways, i have wanted one of these based off feedback for awhile. i refused to wait unknown amounts of time, so i just kept on usin my black magic fan. it worked fine, but it left little room for growth with its cooling capacity. it was also on a switch, anyone besides me would overheat the car.
i finally jumped on one new for a fair price. got it installed today and it seems to work very well. i was very leary to test it today. it was 95 degree's out in WA state, really hot for us. it went to 170, 175, 180 which i never let it get over with my other fan. then it slowly climbed to 183 and i heard it kick on low idling at a light. it went down to 17x on the low speed
then i went out the backroads and did a few wot pulls. it jumped up to 185.. 188.. once it touched 188 it shot down immidiately to 180 again and never went back over 180. the function of the controller is great. it is no harder on my electrical system then my black magic that i can see. (watching volt meter). pretty impressive considering the power draw difference of the two.
we also wired it to cool with the car off when they sit and heat up. it kicked on with the car off and ran for like 5-8 seconds then shut off. car temp leveled out and cooled from there.
wanted to post results for anyone else frustrated trying to use the mark8 fan like myself. the switch deal worked, but i drive my car alot. it is annoying to always be on the lookout, shutting fan off and on. well worth the money IMO.
