Deal or no Deal???

I know this guy who has a 89 GT... says its the police interceptor.. i havent looked at it yet... anyways it has 225,000 miles on it but the motor was rebuilt 55k miles ago... it is primer, the synchros are out on the 5 speed, but other than that there is no rust, dents, and the interior is good and clean, and it has some Eagle rims on it... anyway he only wants $800, I figure i can get about $3-3500 outta my AOD Vert that im selling... which would give me enough for a decent paint job and most like just throwin in another T-5... So what do you think about that deal?

Well IF it actually has 55K then its worth it. That being said ask for paper work. The 5.0 cruisers were NOT GT's, they were notchs. So if hes lying about that I would be sceptical about the motor. Just be thorough with the inspection, .

...sorry my 1 y/o daughter is "helping" me type :nice:

yea i dont think it was a police interceptor unless he put the GT kit on. Other than that it sounds like a good deal at $800, just get the t-5 rebuilt and its all ready ready for a paint job. Sell your car and you have a few mods to bolt onto the new one. Good luck

I would do a compression to see how that motor is running. With 55k compression should be very strong. If the body is in good shape and motor runs good I’ll pay the $800. Offer him $500 and see what he says, worst he could do is say no.

Straight body. Make sure all the panals line up. You cant expect much for that price but like I said ask for paperwork/reciepts on the rebuild. Crank it up, even if it means bringing your own battery. Check the rear tq boxs, make sure there are no cracks or warping. Check the interior or signs of water damage, smell musty? Make sure all the electrical works, lights, signals, etc etc. Good luck :nice:

Its where the lower/upper control arms (rear) connect to the chassis. They have weak welds and will crack when abused. You'll need a flashlight and possibley a jack if the car is too low to get under.

I didnt think they used GT's as cop cars

I was under the impression they were all LX models (mains notchs) and there was only like 2 gts every used? I could be horribly miss guided here though.

yes to gt were only used in 88 and once mor ein 84 it happens. i watched a spical about it on tv a while ago about police cars from the early 60 to the present in 1988 only 2 gt's leaked out by acident from the dealers and the cops just keep them. id say get it cuz you got a piece of history right there. if it in fact is one of the 88 gt police cars. :nice:
